STT GDC set to launch Philippines' largest data centre

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) Philippines is set to commence operations for the first phase of its STT Fairview 1 data center by the second quarter of 2025.

Once fully operational, the STT Fairview campus will claim the title of the largest data center in the Philippines, and will boast a total IT capacity of 124 megawatts (MW). The facility is designed to support the nation's digital transformation as well as handle increasing demands for artificial intelligence (AI) workloads. It will operate as a carrier-neutral data center, offering seamless connectivity options and incorporating sustainable and energy-efficient technologies.

Carlo Malana, President and Chief Executive Officer of STT GDC Philippines, commented, "We remain committed to delivering on our project timelines.

"Last year, we projected that STT Fairview would be ready in the first part of 2025, and we are on schedule to deliver the initial capacity by Q2 2025," he said.

STT GDC Philippines continues to experience strong demand for its services, maintaining significant capacity utilisation levels despite recent expansions. The high utilisation rate indicates robust market confidence in their services and highlights the company's resolve in meeting customer needs and attracting new business.

According to the Department of Trade and Industry, AI is expected to contribute 12% or approximately USD $92 billion to the Philippines' GDP by 2030. Additionally, Statista forecasts the AI industry's market size in the country to grow at a compound annual rate of 28.57%, reaching USD $3.5 billion by 2030, up from the current USD $772 million.

STT GDC Philippines plans to harness its increased capacity to invite major cloud service providers, capitalising on both global expertise and extensive local market knowledge.

The company, a collaborative endeavour involving Globe, Ayala Corporation, and Singapore-based ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, plays a pivotal role in the Southeast Asian region's digital infrastructure. ST Telemedia operates a network of 95 data centres across 11 countries.

"Our designs are built around the current and future requirements of hyperscalers, and our ability to deliver on our commitments is underpinned by the ongoing development of local technical talent," Malana added.
