Veeam launches Data Platform v12.2 with advanced integrations

Thu, 29th Aug 2024

Veeam Software has announced the release of Veeam Data Platform v12.2, aimed at expanding its support services for data protection across various new platforms and applications.

This latest version introduces several new integration features designed to enhance security, streamline operations, and identify data integrity violations.

The goal of this update is to empower organisations to maintain operational agility and security while safeguarding critical data against evolving cyber threats and industry changes.

Anand Eswaran, CEO at Veeam, highlighted the primary objectives that organisations face in the digital world. "In a digital world, organisations face three critical challenges: they must protect their data and be able to rapidly recover it no matter what happens; they need the freedom to move to new platforms; and their data must be available where it’s needed, including AI," he explained. "At Veeam, we're committed to supporting these critical capabilities for our 550,000 customers, and v12.2 is a major step forward."

Eswaran added, "Veeam Data Platform provides a single platform that delivers data resilience across cloud, on-premises and hybrid platforms, bringing together powerful data protection, secure migration, seamless cloud integration, and the industry’s most advanced end-to-end ransomware protection. Data is the lifeblood of every organisation and Veeam Data Platform ensures that data is safe, secure and always available."

The new integration features in Veeam Data Platform v12.2 allow organisations the flexibility to choose their preferred infrastructure with scalable, policy-driven protection. Integration with Nutanix Prism Central offers robust protection for enterprise needs, while new support for the Proxmox VE hypervisor enables organisations to modernise on their terms. MongoDB backup is also a new addition, providing immutability, centralised management, and high-speed recovery.

Additionally, the update includes enhanced support for cloud services. Veeam Data Platform v12.2 helps organisations accelerate their transformation to the cloud, new hypervisors, or hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) with support for Amazon FSx, Amazon RedShift, Azure Cosmos DB, and Azure Data Lake Storage. The platform offers full management of YARA rules - useful for threat detection - and includes expanded health-check alarms to help identify data integrity violations and collection gaps.

Krista Case, Research Director at The Futurum Group, commented on the significance of these updates. "The Futurum Groups Cybersecurity Decision Maker IQ data indicates that improving the ability to meet RPO/RTO requirements, and the ability to improve cyber resiliency capabilities, are the top reasons that customers would consider replacing their existing data protection vendor," she said. "IT and Security teams express the need not only for confidence in the ability to recover as quickly as possible from a cyber-attack, but also to optimise their security posture and defences, to prevent an attack to begin with."

Martin Maurer, CEO of Proxmox Server Solutions, highlighted the relevance of the new Proxmox VE hypervisor support. "We see Veeam's support for the Proxmox VE hypervisor as a valuable addition for organisations seeking open-source flexibility and cost-effectiveness. It allows customers to stick with their preferred single platform for data backup and recovery while embracing the preferred hypervisor of their choice," he said.

James Westendorf, Director of Technical Services at Lake Land College, echoed this sentiment. "With the recent changes at VMware, we were forced to re-evaluate which hypervisor to choose for our data centre - a situation nobody wants to be in. Veeam remains a critical partner for us as we look forward to being able to choose to move to Proxmox. Using Veeam's trusted tools for data migration will provide us with the peace of mind we need during these tumultuous times," he stated.

Veeam Data Platform v12.2 appears to be targeting critical needs for data resilience, focusing on providing comprehensive security, easy migration options, and enhanced support for both existing and emerging cloud and virtualisation platforms. This update underscores Veeam's commitment to equipping organisations with the tools they need to protect and manage their data effectively in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
