Upwind fortifies Cloud Security Platform with identity security
Mon, 15th Apr 2024

In the wake of 84% of organisations reporting an identity-related security breach last year, Upwind is fortifying its Cloud Security Platform with the inclusion of identity security. This anticipates future trends in cloud security, focusing on protecting the cloud infrastructure and applications, and securing both human and machine identities from potential threats.

Addressing the growing issue of Cloud Identity Entitlement Management (CIEM), Upwind's innovative approach offers a comprehensive solution. It utilises runtime data from application and infrastructure sources including Application, VMS, Kubernetes and Identity providers. This method facilitates an understanding of the permissions used by identities, enabling the platform to detect and highlight critical risk factors.

Last year witnessed a surge in identity-based attacks, inciting concerns over the integrity of digital trust and authentication. The 2022 Trends in Securing Digital Identities report by the IDSA confirms a startling 84% of organisations experienced an identity-related breach in the preceding 12 months. This trend is affecting the CIEM market, provoking it to anticipate substantial growth from 1.2 billion USD in 2023 to 7.5 billion USD by 2028, showcasing a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 44.2%

Identity security management presents a plethora of challenges. Among them is the necessity for comprehensive auditing and the creation of compliance reports. Additionally, organisations must proactively identify the potential risks associated with high-privileged identities and take measures to mitigate them. Organisations strive to ensure identities are configured with the least privilege necessary for their designated tasks whilst trying to minimise permissions based on usage. However, attempting to marry these security best practices with organisational agility can result in friction.

Addressing this, Upwind's solution utilises runtime insights to furnish organisations with a deep understanding of identity context and risk assessments. This approach simplifies management and streamlines auditing, compliance and Cloud Identity Entitlement Management. Proactively reducing risk through a deep discovery of cloud AIM, Upwind's software assists organisations in preventing potential data access threats. Ultimately, this provides comprehensive visibility of human and machine identities and useful recommendations on ways to reinforce identity management.

Amiram Shachar, Upwind's Co-Founder and CEO, outlined the benefits of their new offering. "Our Identity Security solution effectively trims the attack surface through proactive identity risk resolution whilst performing sophisticated identity-related threat detection and mitigation. It further optimises policies for streamlined least privilege and eases the process of running executive reports for compliance and auditing."

Emerging from the increasingly challenging climate of cloud security, Upwind states it is focused on offering a 'promising solution' and an 'optimistic outlook' on the evolution of secure identity management within the digital world.
