Qodo brings AI-powered code review into Azure DevOps

Qodo has added an integration with Microsoft Azure DevOps that brings its AI-based code review into Azure DevOps pull request workflows.

The release is reportedly a response to the rise in AI-assisted code generation and the pressure it puts on large teams to maintain consistent review, governance, and traceability across multiple repositories.

The integration is available in beta. It focuses on review feedback that draws on information beyond a single pull request, using full codebase context, past review decisions, and organisational coding standards to flag issues inside Azure DevOps.

Workflow Focus

Large organisations often standardise on Azure DevOps for source control, pipelines and work tracking. Many also run multiple repositories and shared components, which can make it harder to apply consistent review practices when teams move at different speeds.

Qodo aims to make review outcomes more consistent across teams and repositories. It also emphasises traceability as part of day-to-day development, rather than relying on checks that happen only after code is merged.

Qodo says the product does not remove human reviewers. Instead, it is positioned as a way to keep code review workable as AI tools increase development throughput.

Context Engine

At the centre of Qodo's platform is a "context engine", an indexing system designed to build an understanding of an organisation's engineering environment over time.

The context engine continuously indexes multi-repository architectures and pull request history. It also ingests requirements captured in tickets from systems including Azure Boards, Jira, and Linear, which Qodo says it uses to detect issues that go beyond syntax and style checks.

That includes potential mismatches with architectural standards and security policies, based on an organisation's own rules and prior decisions. Qodo also says the feedback reflects business and architectural context, which can be difficult for new team members to infer when working across unfamiliar services and repositories.

Governance is a central theme of the Azure DevOps release. Qodo says engineering leaders can enforce standards and preserve institutional knowledge through the review workflow, while developers receive feedback in the same tools they use day to day.

Enterprise Pressure

Qodo frames the integration as a way to prevent code review from becoming a bottleneck as code generation speeds up. In large organisations, review also supports compliance and audit needs, increasing demand for consistent policy enforcement and a clear record of why decisions were made.

The integration relies on historical review outcomes and organisational standards, with the goal of keeping decisions aligned across teams even as ownership changes or work spans multiple repositories.

Itamar Friedman, Qodo's CEO and co-founder, said the launch reflects a choice enterprises face as AI-driven development becomes more common.

"As AI accelerates software development, enterprises face a choice," said Friedman. "They must decide whether to scale code review to match AI development velocity, or let quality gates become the constraint that limits competitive advantage. Our integration with Azure DevOps enables customers to apply code review both consistently and intelligently across the entire development lifecycle."

Company Background

Qodo describes itself as an AI code review platform focused on governance for enterprise engineering teams. It says the product uses full-repository signals, including codebase history and prior pull request decisions, and highlights a "multi-agent review system" and "context engineering" as part of its current product line.

Founded in 2018, Qodo has raised $50 million. Backers include TLV Partners, Vine Ventures, Susa Ventures, and Square Peg, along with angel investors that include executives from OpenAI, Shopify, and Snyk.

Qodo says the Azure DevOps integration broadens its enterprise ecosystem and that it plans to continue expanding integrations across systems used for code, review, and work management in large-scale software development.
