OpenSearch adds three members amid AI search growth
The OpenSearch Software Foundation has added BigData Boutique, OpenSource Connections and Resolve Technology as general members, expanding its presence across Europe and Asia.
The three companies will join working groups, contribute to technical initiatives and help shape the organisation's direction in search, observability and vector database development. Their arrival comes as businesses increase their use of hybrid and vector-based search in AI systems and broader data infrastructure.
As the neutral home of the OpenSearch project, the foundation said the new members bring expertise in consultancy, support services and cloud-native infrastructure. Their addition also highlights the project's growing appeal among specialist search firms and regional technology providers as demand for open-source alternatives rises.
OpenSearch began as an open-source search and analytics project and has since become part of a broader discussion around AI-related data retrieval. Companies are using hybrid search, which combines traditional keyword methods with semantic or vector techniques, to improve how internal and customer-facing systems find information.
An S&P Global Market Intelligence report cited by the foundation said hybrid and vector-augmented search can help enterprises improve results and support AI initiatives. Against that backdrop, search infrastructure has become more strategic for organisations looking to connect large data estates with generative AI and analytics tools.
New members
BigData Boutique provides OpenSearch support and consulting for organisations using the software for search, observability and AI workloads. It also supports larger deployments through its OpenSearch Enterprise distribution and PulseOps for OpenSearch.
OpenSource Connections is a consultancy focused on search relevance and search-led AI. Its work includes advisory services, implementation and training for teams building and operating search and AI systems.
Resolve Technology works across digital transformation, DevOps, AI, platform engineering and cloud-native infrastructure. It serves customers in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore and has presented its OpenSearch membership as part of a broader commitment to open-source technology.
The latest memberships reflect broader growth in participation from organisations that see open search and analytics tools as core infrastructure. That trend spans large cloud providers, service companies and regional specialists, particularly where customers want more control over the software stacks used for search and observability.
Bianca Lewis, Executive Director of the OpenSearch Software Foundation, said the new members would broaden the project's expertise and geographic reach. "To keep pace with industry modernization, organizations need transparent, flexible search, analytics and observability platforms built for long-term sustainability," Lewis said. "Welcoming BigData Boutique, OpenSource Connections and Resolve Technology to the Foundation strengthens the technical depth and global reach of the OpenSearch community, and ensures that the future of search innovation remains open."
Each new member framed its decision around openness and the ability to influence the direction of search technology. That is a common theme across open-source foundations, where membership gives companies a way to contribute engineering effort while taking part in governance and standards-setting.
BigData Boutique pointed to its history with the project and the role of open governance in customer adoption. "OpenSearch has become critical infrastructure for organizations building modern search, observability and AI-driven applications. At BigData Boutique we work with companies operating OpenSearch at significant scale, and we see firsthand how important an open, vendor-neutral ecosystem is for long-term innovation. As long-time code contributors, joining the OpenSearch Software Foundation allows us to expand our contributions and help shape the future of open search and analytics," said Itamar Syn-Hershko, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of BigData Boutique.
OpenSource Connections linked its membership to customer demand for more control over search systems used in AI applications. "As a firm dedicated to search-driven AI, our mission is to empower search teams by providing them with the tools and knowledge to solve their most complex relevance problems. We are proud to support the OpenSearch project because its 100% open source nature and vendor-neutral governance ensure that organizations can truly own their search, and innovate without being locked into proprietary 'black-box' systems," said Pugh.
Resolve Technology said it would use its membership to contribute to the project and community. "Joining the OpenSearch Software Foundation solidifies our commitment to open source excellence. We look forward to actively contributing to the community's growth and sharing our expertise to shape a transparent, innovative future. Together, we'll ensure OpenSearch remains the gold standard for scalable search and observability solutions worldwide," said Wong.
