Juspay has expanded its partnership with Wego in the Middle East, with the agreement focused on payments for Wego's travel marketplace.

As it enters more markets across the region, Wego is using Juspay to add local payment service providers, acquirers, banks and payment methods. The aim is to help travellers complete bookings with payment options familiar to them in each market.

Payment preferences vary widely across the Middle East and North Africa, where cards, wallets and local methods can differ sharply from one country to another. That has made payments infrastructure a key part of online travel groups' efforts to improve checkout conversion and reduce failed transactions.

Since the two companies began working together, Wego says it has improved authorisation rates through transaction routing, 3D Secure optimisation and automated retries. The partnership has also given it better visibility into payment issues across more than 300 payment service providers and acquirers.

Wego's marketplace lets users search, compare and book flights and hotels from airlines, hotels and online travel agencies. It also runs WegoPro, a business travel platform, and WegoBeds, a bedbank focused on the Middle East and North Africa.

The expanded arrangement gives Wego access to Juspay's orchestration layer, which connects merchants to a wide range of payment providers without separate integrations for each one. For a business operating across multiple markets, that can reduce the work needed to introduce new payment options country by country.

Juspay says its network processes more than 300 million transactions a day and more than USD $1 trillion in annualised total payment volume. The platform serves more than 500 enterprises and banks.

For Wego, payments have become a bigger operational issue as it broadens its regional footprint. A customer booking travel in one market may expect to pay by card, while another may prefer a domestic wallet or other local method. That puts pressure on travel platforms to adapt checkout options without adding too much behind-the-scenes complexity.

Alexandre Morin, Director of Payments, Risk & Fintech at Wego, outlined the rationale for the expanded partnership.

"Wego has built its leadership in MENA by understanding how travellers across the region search, compare, and book travel, and by continuously adapting our platform to their evolving needs. Payments are an important part of that experience. As we scale across markets with different payment behaviours, our partnership with Juspay gives us the flexibility to offer more locally relevant ways to pay while maintaining a simple and reliable booking journey. This is part of our broader commitment to using technology and local market insight to make travel easier and more accessible for our users," Morin said.

Regional complexity

The tie-up reflects a broader challenge for digital commerce businesses operating across fragmented payments markets. Travel platforms in particular are exposed to failed or abandoned transactions because purchases are often cross-border, relatively high in value and sensitive to friction at checkout.

In that context, improvements in authorisation rates can directly affect completed bookings. Automated retries and clearer error mapping can also help merchants identify whether problems stem from a specific provider, bank or payment method.

Nakul Kothari, Head of APAC & Middle East at Juspay, said regional differences in payments infrastructure make travel transactions harder to manage.

"Travel payments need to work reliably across markets where customer preferences and payment infrastructure can vary significantly. Wego's scale and deep understanding of travellers across the Middle East make this an important partnership for us. By combining that regional expertise with our payment orchestration technology, we can help Wego adapt to local payment ecosystems while supporting a consistent experience as the business continues to grow," Kothari said.

Wego describes itself as the largest online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa and says it serves millions of travellers across the region. The company is headquartered in Singapore and Dubai, with offices in Bangalore and Mumbai.

Juspay, based in Bangalore, has built its business around payment software and orchestration for merchants and banks operating across multiple providers and markets. Its latest expansion with Wego points to continued demand from consumer internet companies seeking to simplify payments operations as they scale across regions with uneven infrastructure and differing customer habits.
