Fujitsu partners with SAP Fioneer to innovate insurance in Japan

Today

Fujitsu and SAP Fioneer have entered into a partnership to advance digital transformation within Japan's insurance sector.

The partnership aims to address significant changes and challenges in the insurance industry by developing the Japan Edition of SAP Fioneer Cloud for Insurance, an end-to-end cloud-based platform that combines core insurance services with localised business content and global industry best practices. This move comes as the insurance industry globally, and in Japan, faces changes driven by technological advancements and societal challenges such as an aging population and declining birth rates.

The collaboration between the two companies is intended to make core insurance operations more standardised, enabling customers to manage aspects such as product management, underwriting management, policy management, and claims management efficiently. The technology will allow insurers to strategically allocate resources to areas that add more value, such as new product development and sales channel expansion, while ensuring strong IT capabilities and ongoing quality improvements.

Fujitsu and SAP Fioneer aim to position this edition as the standard for industry collaboration in Japan, intending to foster innovation in products, channels, and processes, as well as to enhance governance across the insurance sector. Proof-of-concept projects with customers will be conducted by Fujitsu to validate this new service, with plans to begin offering it by March 2026.

Masaru Yagi, Corporate Executive Officer, EVP, Vice Head of Global Customer Success at Fujitsu Limited, stated, "We are excited to start a partnership with SAP Fioneer. The collaboration marks a pivotal moment in our efforts to drive digital transformation (DX) for our financial customers. By merging SAP Fioneer's cutting-edge financial services solutions with Fujitsu's unparalleled expertise and quality in system development for the financial sector, we are poised to deliver groundbreaking and efficient solutions like never before. Through this partnership, we will closely collaborate with SAP Fioneer from product planning to development and marketing, and advance DX in the financial industry."

Chirag Shah, Managing Director Insurance at SAP Fioneer, commented, "Japan's insurance market requires solutions that address its unique local regulatory and functional requirements. In response to the industry's demand for an adaptable packaged software suited to the Japanese insurance sector, we are partnering with Fujitsu to develop the Japan Edition of SAP Fioneer Cloud for Insurance, our core insurance platform, which combines localized business content with global industry best practices."

As part of their agreement, Fujitsu and SAP Fioneer intend to transform existing systems and operations, aiming to empower the insurance sector in Japan to meet evolving customer expectations and intensifying competition. The partners will focus on leveraging SAP Fioneer's technology while tapping into Fujitsu's development expertise to bring a solution that accommodates the specific needs of Japan's insurance landscape.
