Commvault has appointed Brian Lanigan as Chief Partner Officer, placing him in charge of the company's global partner strategy as it expands its channel ecosystem and strategic alliances.

Lanigan will report to Geoff Haydon, President of Customer and Field Operations. He will lead Commvault's Global Partner Organisation, overseeing relationships with hyperscalers, managed service providers, distributors, resellers, systems integrators and strategic technology partners.

Partner strategy

The appointment comes as Commvault continues to expand its partner-led go-to-market strategy. The company has increased its focus on cloud partnerships and AI-related cyber resilience offerings as demand grows for integrated data protection and recovery capabilities.

Recent initiatives include a multi-year partnership with Microsoft to integrate Commvault's cyber resilience platform with Microsoft Azure. The company has also introduced AI-focused capabilities, including its Minutes to Recovery cyberattack simulation, as part of its broader resilience portfolio.

Lanigan will be responsible for growing Commvault's global partner ecosystem and strengthening relationships across cloud providers, managed service partners and technology alliances.

"Partners are central to our growth strategy and to helping customers advance resilience readiness in an increasingly complex AI and cyber landscape," said Geoff Haydon, President of Customer and Field Operations, Commvault.

"Brian brings significant cybersecurity expertise to Commvault and has a proven track record of building world-class partner programs and driving measurable business results. His leadership and experience make him the ideal person to lead the next chapter of Commvault's partner ecosystem growth," said Haydon.

Industry experience

Lanigan joins Commvault with more than two decades of experience in partner and channel leadership across the cybersecurity and enterprise software sectors.

Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President of Partner Ecosystem at SentinelOne. During his career he has also held leadership roles at Lacework, Splunk and HP Software. Earlier positions included roles at Peregrine Systems, Overture Services and Keylime Software.

His experience has centred on developing partner programmes, expanding strategic alliances and building cloud and managed services ecosystems.

The appointment follows several executive changes at Commvault this year. Geoff Haydon became President of Customer and Field Operations in April after joining the company's board in 2025. Gary Merrill also returned to the role of Chief Financial Officer after previously serving as Chief Commercial Officer.

Growth focus

Commvault has continued to invest in its cyber resilience business while expanding its partner ecosystem.

The company recently received recognition as a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Backup and Data Protection Platforms. It also ranked first in five of six use cases in Gartner's 2026 Critical Capabilities report.

The latest leadership appointment follows a period of financial growth. Commvault reported fiscal 2026 revenue of approximately USD $1.1 billion, representing a 19% year-on-year increase, supported by growth in annual recurring revenue and subscription revenue.

The company has continued reshaping its executive leadership while strengthening relationships with cloud providers and channel partners as part of its long-term growth strategy.

"Commvault has established itself as a trusted leader in AI and cyber resilience, and I'm excited to join the team at such a pivotal time for customers and partners," said Brian Lanigan, Chief Partner Officer, Commvault.

"I look forward to working with our global partner ecosystem to create new opportunities for growth, deliver exceptional customer outcomes, and expand the value Commvault brings to organizations around the world," said Lanigan.
