CelcomDigi debuts PhoneFIX monthly device repair plan
CelcomDigi has launched a monthly phone repair subscription called PhoneFIX and said it is the first Malaysian telecoms operator to offer repair coverage for eligible devices bought from any retailer.
The operator said PhoneFIX is available to its prepaid and postpaid customers through a partnership with Swap Asia. Pricing starts from RM3 per month. CelcomDigi is offering the first month at RM1.
The plan covers common repair issues, including cracked screens and battery problems, according to the company. CelcomDigi said repairs can often be completed on the same day, depending on the issue.
PhoneFIX applies to eligible devices, including those that customers did not purchase from CelcomDigi. The company said it will provide the service with device experts and dedicated customer support.
Subscription process
Customers can subscribe through the CelcomDigi app. CelcomDigi said customers can scan their device in the app as part of the sign-up process and then activate the discounted first month.
The launch positions phone repairs as a recurring subscription product in the Malaysian telecoms market, where operators more commonly bundle handset instalment plans, add-on device insurance, or extended warranty offers with selected purchases.
CelcomDigi framed the new product as part of a broader device care line-up. The company said PhoneFIX sits alongside swap or replace services that it already offers.
The company did not provide details on claim limits, exclusions, or the number of service locations in its announcement. It also did not disclose repair turnaround targets beyond its statement that repairs can often be completed within the same day.
Market backdrop
Rising smartphone prices and the cost of out-of-warranty repairs have increased consumer interest in alternative payment models, including subscriptions and bundled services, across several markets. In Malaysia, device owners often rely on ad hoc repair shops or manufacturer service centres when screens or batteries fail.
PhoneFIX targets that pain point with an operator-led programme that covers devices regardless of where they were purchased, CelcomDigi said. That approach broadens the addressable base beyond customers who buy their handset directly from the operator, which typically ties coverage products to new device sales.
Partnership model
CelcomDigi partnered with Swap Asia for the service. The announcement did not describe Swap Asia's role in detail, beyond confirming the collaboration and the availability of the subscription to CelcomDigi customers.
Telecoms operators have increasingly expanded into adjacent services that generate recurring revenue, including digital content bundles, financial services, and device lifecycle products. Device repair and protection plans offer another route for operators to deepen customer relationships without relying solely on mobile service pricing.
CelcomDigi said it has more than 20.5 million users on its network. The operator is Malaysia's largest mobile network operator by subscriber base, according to its statement.
The company did not state any customer adoption targets for PhoneFIX or provide forecasts for contribution to revenue. It also did not specify whether PhoneFIX would be extended to cover tablets, wearables, or other consumer electronics beyond mobile phones.
CelcomDigi said customers can access the service through its app, which remains a key channel for telcos as they shift transactions and support away from physical stores and call centres. The company said the process is designed to be quick to start, with device scanning used during sign-up.
CelcomDigi has not announced whether PhoneFIX will be available through other channels, such as retail outlets, or whether it will introduce multiple tiers beyond the entry-level RM3 per month subscription described in the announcement.
The company said it expects the service to address everyday repair needs and sit alongside its other options for device swaps and replacements.
