Autodesk Construction Cloud receives ISO 19650 certification

Fri, 14th Jun 2024

According to an announcement by Autodesk, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) has achieved ISO 19650 compliance and BIM Level 2 accreditation. These certifications were awarded by TÜV SÜD, an independent testing, inspection, and certification body, and validate ACC's adherence to the widely recognised standards for digital information management in construction projects.

ISO 19650 is an international standard critical for managing information across the lifecycle of a built asset using Building Information Modelling (BIM). To obtain certification, organisations are required to integrate compliant BIM processes and information management systems, undergo an audit by a certification body, and address any non-conformities.

Jeff Larrick, Senior Director of Construction Sales for APAC and Japan at Autodesk, commented on the newly acquired certifications: "Achieving ISO 19650 certification from TÜV SÜD for Autodesk Construction Cloud underscores our commitment to providing a robust common data environment solution, ensuring seamless digital information management throughout the construction lifecycle and empowering our customers with superior project outcomes."

Ken Soh, Senior Manager of AECO Strategy for ASEAN at Autodesk, also emphasised the significance of embracing ISO 19650. "Embracing ISO 19650 is not just about meeting compliance standards. It's a move towards streamlining operations, enhancing collaboration, and ultimately driving productivity. At its core, it's about leveraging digital construction methodologies to work smarter, not harder, and making every project a testament to efficiency and excellence," said Mr Soh.

The ISO 19650 standard is particularly essential for building owners requiring a common data environment (CDE) for the development of Digital Twins and seamless data transfer from project to operational phases, such as asset and facility management. Autodesk Construction Cloud's certification means clients like building owners, design agencies, construction companies, and other architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) entities can now ensure their digital information management and Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD) align with ISO 19650 criteria.

Reflecting on the certification process, Sebastian Bolle, BIM Consultant at TÜV SÜD Advimo, noted the measures taken to ensure ACC's compliance. "To ensure full ISO 19650 compliance for Autodesk Construction Cloud, we developed a Proof Template to ensure any ACC customer can set up and operate this solution with all settings on roles and responsibilities, the correct metadata and important digital workflows in the safest and deepest way to test compliance," said Mr Bolle.

The Proof Template designed by TÜV SÜD signifies formal compliance for ACC and offers practical, plug-and-play setup guidance for customers. Tobias Schmidt, responsible for Digital Lifecycle Solutions at TÜV SÜD, explained, "This Proof Template not only demonstrates formal compliance for Autodesk Construction Cloud but is also a practical and powerful plug-and-play setup guide that customers can use to adjust their ACC solution rapidly for projects, saving time and mitigating risk."

The TÜV SÜD ISO 19650 compliance programme covers over 750 construction-related, practice-oriented test criteria and conducts multiple audits of Autodesk Construction Cloud's CDE. It ensures the solution is compliant both for processes during the project phase, in line with ISO 19650-1:2018 and ISO 19650-2:2018, and for managing buildings, as stipulated in ISO 19650-3:2020.

Mr Schmidt concluded, "ISO 19650 conformance in combination with proven IDD excellence or with BIM Level 2 compliance is a true business driver for architects, engineers, and construction companies. The Autodesk Construction Cloud template developed by TÜV SÜD makes it very convenient and safe for CDE users to comply with ISO 19650."
