Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise unveils new networking solution for FMI

Mon, 2nd Sep 2024

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise has implemented a new networking solution for PT Fiber Media Indonesia (FMI) to address technological challenges and enhance user experience in the Greater Jakarta area.

The upgraded infrastructure employs Alcatel-Lucent's OmniSwitch 6900C32E and OmniSwitch 6900X24, which are designed to offer higher connection speeds, increased access bandwidth, and improved backbone connectivity for subscribers.

The new ALE solution incorporates Shortest Path Bridging (SPB) technology into FMI's network. SPB aims to address the limitations of the aging Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) previously used by FMI. By delivering traffic on the shortest available path, SPB offers more rapid convergence after a network issue and supports multiple active paths. Additionally, SPB enhances security by separating different types of traffic into "containers," preventing unauthorised access.

Novse Hardiman, Country Manager for Indonesia at Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, stated, "We were pleased to be able to collaborate with our partner PT Quinsis Lintas Mitra to showcase in a trial for FMI how our OmniSwitch solution with SPB could help them resolve the issues their network was facing and improve performance for their customers. SPB is significantly simpler to deploy and maintain than more traditional methods of moving network traffic and is a key differentiating feature of our solution."

Damien Delard, APAC Vice President Channel and SEA/NEA Head of Sales at Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, added, "Shortest Path Bridging is a foundational technology at ALE that has proven its reliability to support diverse customers and industries around the world, as it has with FMI in Indonesia. This technology is versatile, simple, and reliable and helps to address the shortcomings of Spanning Tree Protocol. It continues to be a key differentiator for us, and we are glad to make it a key part of FMI’s business expansion project."

Budi Aditya, CEO of PT Fiber Media Indonesia, expressed satisfaction with the advancement, stating, "As our business grows, our aim is always to provide an efficient, reliable network that exceeds the expectations of our subscribers. ALE has demonstrated a strong commitment to our success by providing excellent assistance from both technology and business perspectives to help make our business expansion project a success. We are delighted with the real-time performance and recovery time of our new infrastructure in Greater Jakarta and cities in the Java area."

With the new ALE network, FMI is prepared to meet the increasing expectations of their expanding customer base in Indonesia.

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise aims to deliver the customised technology experiences enterprises need to make everything connect. ALE provides digital-age networking, communications and cloud solutions with services tailored to ensure customers’ success, with flexible business models in the cloud, on premises, and hybrid. All solutions have built-in security and limited environmental impact.
