Tue, 8th Oct 2024

Aiven has announced a partnership with Google Cloud, introducing Aiven for AlloyDB Omni. This will allow the database to run on multiple cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.

Based in Helsinki, Aiven is a data and AI platform company that has collaborated with Google Cloud to leverage its downloadable database technology, AlloyDB Omni. This strategic alliance is set to offer a managed cloud database service that gives organisations a way to deploy, manage, and scale AlloyDB Omni efficiently across various cloud services, thereby facilitating seamless multi-cloud operations.

Aiven for AlloyDB Omni aims to simplify the process of managing cloud databases, providing businesses with a streamlined and secure option for overseeing their PostgreSQL workloads. It enhances performance and scalability, reportedly offering significant speed improvements over standard PostgreSQL in various capacities. Transactional workloads, analytical queries, and vector queries can experience enhancements, promising over two times, one hundred times, and four times faster performance.

CEO of Aiven, Oskari Saarenmaa, stated, "Our partnership with Google Cloud will deliver AlloyDB Omni to our customers on their preferred infrastructure, regardless of whether it's AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. It combines AlloyDB Omni's industry-leading technology with Aiven's expertise in managing multi-cloud data infrastructure, and empowers organisations to build and scale next-generation PostgreSQL applications faster and easier than ever before."

Andi Gutmans, General Manager and Vice President of Databases at Google Cloud, commented, "In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, businesses need the flexibility to run their databases and applications wherever they are, with superior performance, availability, and scale. We developed AlloyDB Omni in order to enable our customers to run the most demanding PostgreSQL workloads in any environment including on-premises and across clouds. With Aiven for AlloyDB Omni, customers will now be able to get a fully managed AlloyDB Omni database service not only on Google Cloud, but also on AWS and Azure."

The service promises simplified database management through Aiven's expertise, which will reduce the time and resources needed for businesses to focus on core activities. It also offers multi-cloud flexibility, allowing organisations to use their preferred cloud infrastructure without compromising on security or compliance across varying environments.

With optimised performance and streamlined operations, Aiven for AlloyDB Omni supports the development of AI-powered applications. Features like native vector search and Vertex AI integration aim to accelerate AI adoption, which can help unlock deeper insights from data.

The Aiven for AlloyDB Omni service is expected to be generally available in 2025, as the collaboration seeks to position enterprises to better manage their data infrastructure while more effectively pursuing innovation.
