Zoom & Mitel launch hybrid communications solution

Yesterday

Zoom Communications and Mitel have launched a hybrid communication solution that integrates Zoom's collaboration features with Mitel's telephony systems.

The new solution aims to address the growing interest among mid-to-large enterprises in adopting hybrid communication deployments. By merging the flexibility of cloud capabilities with on-premises infrastructure, the solution targets various sectors, including healthcare, government, and financial services.

This collaboration marks a continuation of the strategic partnership first announced in September 2024 between the two companies. The joint venture brings together Zoom's AI-driven collaboration platform with Mitel's well-established telephony systems.

The multi-phased rollout of the solution will initially support Mitel's OpenScape Voice and OpenScape 4000 platforms, with future compatibility expected for MiVoice Business solutions, MiVoice 5000, and MX-ONE solutions by the end of 2025. The Mitel 6900 Series and OpenScape CP devices already hold Zoom Phone certification, and plans are in place for further certification extensions. The solution aims to future-proof business communications with a focus on flexibility.

Graeme Geddes, Chief Sales and Growth Officer at Zoom, stated, "As businesses navigate the connectivity requirements to support hybrid work, they need solutions that unite the benefits of on-prem or single-instance cloud communications infrastructure with Zoom's industry-leading collaboration experiences, giving them the best of both while future-proofing their organisations."

He further noted that the AI-integrated solution provides a seamless communication experience while allowing customers to adopt cloud solutions on their terms.

David Petts, Chief Sales Officer at Mitel, highlighted the significance of this development by saying, "Recent research shows 92% of mid-to-large enterprises are considering hybrid deployments, and for good reason. In today's rapidly changing workplace, staying connected through video, chat, or voice is more important than ever and a vital part of business continuity planning." He emphasised the solution's capability to meet compliance and security standards across various challenging industries.

Users of the new system will have access to tools for calling, meeting, and chatting within one interface, facilitated by a seamless transition from Mitel-enabled calls to Zoom meetings. Zoom Docs, Whiteboard, and AI Companion are among the tools incorporated to enhance productivity.

The hybrid model aims to offer extensive control over critical activities, such as system updates and configuration changes, while leveraging existing investments. This brings assurance to industries like healthcare and government that rely on specialised integrations and workflows.

The solution's architecture offers a blend of on-prem and cloud functionalities, allowing organisations to configure the approach that best suits their needs. With Zoom Workplace at its core, it provides a consistent user experience, and organisations favouring UCaaS models can include their existing certified Mitel devices without complications.

Jim Lundy, Founder and CEO of Aragon Research, commented on the development, asserting, "The Mitel-Zoom partnership is a game changer, offering businesses a path to hybrid communications with AI collaboration and communications capabilities."

The jointly developed communications solution is now accessible to customers globally, with further capabilities planned as part of the ongoing partnership strategy between Zoom and Mitel.
