Fri, 16th Feb 2024

Yondr Group, a developer, owner, operator, and service provider of hyperscale data centres, announced a strategic partnership with Marubeni Corporation, one of Japan's largest conglomerates. The goal of this partnership is centred around data centre development in Japan.

The collaboration initially aims to establish a data centre in West Tokyo, though plans for additional sites are already being considered. This partnership signifies Yondr's entry into the vibrant Tokyo market, which holds the rank as the second-largest global market, following Northern Virginia in the United States. Notably, Yondr has already made a significant impact in the Northern Virginia market, where it has inaugurated its first development and is preparing to start on a second data centre on site.

This strategic alliance presents Yondr Group with the opportunity to introduce its reputable model of dependable hyperscale data centres to the Japanese market. The demand for such utilities is forecasted to reach over 3GW by 2029. This partnership also enhances Yondr's current expansions in Asia, more specifically, its ongoing development in locations such as Johor, Malaysia. Here, Yondr is in the process of constructing the largest hyperscale data centre campus in the Southeast Asia region.

Paul Dillon, Chief Development Officer at Yondr, said, "Marubeni is a very successful and respected business, and we are delighted to have secured such an excellent partner for future development in Tokyo and Japan, building on the progress we have already made in the APAC region."

Dillon further elucidated on the diverse global interests of Marubeni, which includes power generation. He claimed that the partnership could potentially give Yondr a pipeline for data centre development and contribute to renewable energy projects in both APAC and EMEA. He expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "We look forward to progressing this relationship in a way that benefits not only both partners, but also clients in need of data centre capacity and their customers throughout the world."

Yondr Group's strategic partnership with Marubeni Corporation serves to enhance both companies' scope in the dynamically evolving sector of data centre development. In particular, it offers Yondr a significant platform for expansion in the Japanese market, projecting growth on a global scale and benefiting clients worldwide who rely on efficient data centre services.
