Xsolla launches Unity SDK to boost direct game monetisation

Fri, 15th Aug 2025

Xsolla has announced the launch of a software development kit (SDK) for Unity that aims to broaden direct-to-consumer monetisation options for developers using the Unity engine.

The new SDK is part of an ongoing strategy by Xsolla to enable game developers to generate revenue directly from players, regardless of platform, while reducing the need for complex backend development and simplifying global commerce operations.

Functionality and reach

Unity developers working across mobile, PC, or browser-based games can now use the SDK to integrate payments, facilitate in-game purchases, and build custom storefronts independently from closed distribution platforms. This approach is designed to let developers begin selling to their player base from the moment their game launches, retaining a greater share of their revenue and holding direct control over the entire monetisation process.

Developers are able to manage the checkout experience, handle sensitive player data, and craft their own monetisation strategies with full independence. According to Xsolla, the SDK features several core benefits, including:

  • Drop-in integration with Unity, encompassing payments, web shop, and other direct-to-consumer tools.
  • Cross-platform functionality, covering iOS, Android, PC, and the web from a single SDK.
  • Localised checkout supporting over 1,000 payment methods across more than 200 geographical regions.
  • Mobile-optimised payment flows, built-in anti-fraud technology, and management of customer support, chargeback, and tax complexity.
  • Support for in-app purchases (IAPs), bundles, personalised options, and subscription models.
  • Complete developer control over pricing, promotions, and customer engagement without third-party restrictions.
  • Rapid launch capability for reaching global markets quickly.

Developer perspective

Describing the launch, Chris Hewish, President, Communication & Strategy at Xsolla, said:

"Unity developers are pushing creative boundaries every day, and they deserve the same freedom when it comes to monetization. Our new SDK helps developers reach players directly, keep more revenue, and operate on their terms without giving up flexibility or global reach."

According to the company, the SDK is intended to simplify the process of obtaining direct payments from customers, no matter which platform a developer targets. It also aims to accommodate a range of monetisation models and geographic payment options to address the global market.

Industry context

The Unity engine is widely used by both independent and established game studios for the development of interactive experiences across mobile, PC, and web platforms. Direct-to-consumer sales have become increasingly significant within the industry, as studios and publishers look to retain control over their products and reduce reliance on intermediary storefronts or distribution channels.

Providing access to a broader range of payment methods and purchase flows, while handling the complex logistics of tax and fraud prevention, is seen by Xsolla as a way to streamline operations and address hurdles that might otherwise deter smaller studios or solo developers from international expansion.

The SDK's cross-platform compatibility is intended to give developers the flexibility to manage all transactions through one system, which could reduce duplication of effort when targeting multiple operating systems or devices.

Ongoing mission

Xsolla stated that the launch of the SDK is part of its broader commitment to supporting developers with scalable and modifiable solutions for their business and monetisation needs. The company reiterated its goal of helping creators fund, distribute, promote, and monetise games across a growing number of platforms while maintaining operational independence.

The new SDK is available to Unity developers seeking streamlined monetisation solutions and greater control over their customer relationships in a global market.
