Vietnam Airlines enhances global payments options with Adyen
Adyen has expanded its partnership with Vietnam Airlines by providing global acquiring capabilities, broadening the airline's payments options for international travellers.
Vietnam Airlines, the national carrier, had partnered with Adyen in 2017 to use its payment gateway solution. The recently expanded partnership enables Vietnam Airlines to leverage Adyen's global acquiring network, streamlining transactions for customers in key markets including Japan, Australia, the United States, and across Europe.
The integration between Vietnam Airlines and Adyen allows passengers to use both international credit cards and local payment methods such as Alipay and WeChat Pay. This single integration aims to deliver quicker and more reliable transactions for travellers, regardless of their country of origin or payment preference.
Adyen's acquiring capabilities connect merchants directly to major card schemes such as Visa and Mastercard, which can help partners like Vietnam Airlines benefit from local market conditions. As a result, the airline can achieve higher authorisation rates and realise lower transaction fees in new markets.
Since the partnership expansion, Vietnam Airlines has reported an increase of up to 5% in authorisation rates across the markets served by Adyen's platform.
Bui Tran Cuong, Deputy Director of Finance and Accounting at Vietnam Airlines, commented, "Our strengthened partnership with Adyen represents a significant step forward in Vietnam Airlines' digital transformation. With Adyen's global reach and advanced payment solutions, we can offer travellers around the world a smooth, secure, and flexible payment experience—supporting major card networks and emerging payment methods alike. This collaboration enables us to elevate the passenger journey while boosting operational efficiency and fostering innovation."
Warren Hayashi, President of Asia-Pacific for Adyen, said, "We're honoured to further our longstanding collaboration with Vietnam Airlines as their trusted payments partner and our work together is testament to how the right payment solutions can empower businesses to serve a global customer base at scale."
This partnership is intended to help Vietnam Airlines meet the demand of a growing international customer base and aligns with the airline's ongoing investment in digital transformation initiatives. The use of Adyen's global acquiring network is expected to facilitate secure and efficient payments in markets that are increasingly reliant on digital and alternative payment methods.
Adyen supports several industry participants globally with its end-to-end payment platform, and its work with Vietnam Airlines exemplifies the firm's engagement with airlines and travel companies aiming to adapt to evolving payment landscapes.
Vietnam Airlines operates nearly 100 routes across 18 countries and serves both domestic and international passengers. The airline has emphasised the importance of integrating advanced technology and digital solutions as part of its service delivery and operational strategy. Its fleet consists of Boeing 787-9 and -10 Dreamliners, Airbus A350-900 XWBs, and Airbus A320 and A321neos.
The partnership with Adyen builds on Vietnam Airlines' record of adopting global technology platforms, a strategy recognised through various industry awards in recent years. The airline has also received accolades such as placement in the Top 25 World's Safest Airlines for 2025 and the Top 20 World's Best Airlines for 2025, as well as awards from institutions including Airline Ratings and APEX.
