Tessell launches DBaaS for Oracle ExaDB-D on Oracle Cloud

Fri, 6th Sep 2024

Tessell has announced the launch of its new database-as-a-service (DBaaS) product, Tessell for Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure (ExaDB-D), available on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

The company, which has also become an official Oracle partner, intends to showcase this latest offering at Oracle CloudWorld in Las Vegas from 9 to 12 September.

This strategic partnership and support for OCI are described as enabling a broad spectrum of database services, encompassing cloud data management, integration, and governance for databases, data warehouses, data lakehouses, enterprise analytics, and data science.

According to Tessell, this new collaboration will support customers in their data modernisation efforts by facilitating the migration of on-premises workloads to OCI. Thus, enterprises will have the capacity to derive insights from trusted data on a large scale and benefit from their existing skills and investments.

Bala Kuchibhotla, Tessell's co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "We are honoured to be an Oracle partner and to bring Tessell's database as a service to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). We are excited to bring the power of Tessell's multi-engine database support for enterprises adopting OCI. With ExaDB-D support, customers will enjoy the best of Oracle's infrastructure combined with the most comprehensive data management capabilities."

Tessell aims to provide its customers with greater flexibility and control over their data across various cloud environments. The partnership is geared towards delivering extensive OCI/ExaDB-D infrastructure support, simplified migrations to OCI, and a unified management plane. According to the announcement, customers will now be able to deploy their high availability solutions, such as RAC, on their choice of cloud using ExaDB-D. This collaboration promises highly performant, mission-critical infrastructure optimised for total cost of ownership (TCO).

Furthermore, Tessell's AirDrop data migration solution is highlighted as a significant feature that will enable seamless migration of on-premises applications, databases, and data warehouses to OCI with minimal modifications. The unified management plane aims to allow customers to integrate Oracle infrastructure within their cloud environments seamlessly.

"We are delighted to become an Oracle partner and offer a comprehensive DBaaS solution for OCI," stated Bakul Banthia, Tessell's co-founder and Head of Go-To-Market (GTM). "Our goal has always been to support all cloud database services, giving users their choice of cloud and database infrastructure. Database customers now have access to the same functionality on OCI, the premier cloud for running Oracle databases."

Tessell also disclosed its participation as a sponsor at the upcoming Oracle CloudWorld conference, where it plans to demonstrate the capabilities of Tessell for Oracle ExaDB-D for OCI. Tessell executives will lead a breakout session focusing on database and data lifecycle management for Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure (ExaDB-D). The demonstration is expected to involve practical use cases illustrating challenges like serving application users while migrating data and implementing best practices for data availability and recovery.

Kuchibhotla remarked on this milestone, stating, "Rolling out Tessell for OCI at Oracle CloudWorld is a major milestone, especially since our founders spent a combined 30 years at Oracle. Our mission is to apply what we know about enterprise database technology to make deploying cloud databases easy and elegant without lock-in. Our Oracle CloudWorld demonstration will show that Tessell delivers total control and flexibility on your terms."
