Suprema launches cloud-based biometric access platform

Today

Suprema has officially launched BioStar Air, a cloud-based access control platform that natively supports biometric authentication.

BioStar Air departs from traditional access control infrastructure by implementing a zero-on-premise architecture, incorporating smart readers with integrated controllers that connect directly to the network. This approach streamlines installation and reduces infrastructure expenses, allowing organisations to expand access control across multiple sites without significant hardware commitments.

Designed to serve small and medium-sized businesses, companies with multiple branches, and mixed-use buildings, BioStar Air permits scalability and centralised management of access control solutions. Administrators can monitor and manage users as well as devices in real time through intuitive web and mobile interfaces, supporting the needs of modern, distributed workplaces.

At the core of the platform is its native biometric capability. BioStar Air processes biometric data at the edge of the network, facilitating swift and reliable authentication even during periods of network disruption. Its federated architecture means that an employee can use a single biometric template, such as a face or finger, across different company sites.

The platform currently supports a variety of credentials, including facial authentication, RFID cards, mobile device access, and QR codes. Suprema expects to add fingerprint recognition and support for Apple Wallet in the near future.

Hanchul Kim, Chief Executive Officer of Suprema, said, "Building access control infrastructure can be overwhelming, with servers, controllers, and endless IT overhead. With BioStar Air, we've thrown all that out to deliver on our vision for the future of access control: cloud first, biometric-native, and effortless to scale. Organisations can finally gain the flexibility and confidence they need to secure today's mobile, distributed workplaces."

The introduction of BioStar Air highlights a broader move within the access control industry toward cloud-native platforms that emphasise scalability, reduced infrastructure requirements, and enhanced user management. By integrating biometric authentication and offering real-time control across multiple sites, solutions like BioStar Air are helping organisations adapt to the demands of increasingly mobile and decentralised work environments.

The platform's combination of edge processing and cloud connectivity also offers potential benefits in terms of speed, system resilience, and data privacy, making it a compelling option for businesses rethinking their physical security strategies.
