ST Engineering unveils 'AGIL Smart Energy Building' for 25% energy savings
ST Engineering, a global technology and engineering conglomerate, has announced the launch of a revolutionary suite of smart energy solutions, dubbed the "AGIL Smart Energy Building." The innovative system accelerates building decarbonisation through a whole-building approach to energy optimisation, achieving total energy savings of up to 25%.
The next-generation solution, powered by the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning and automation, integrates multiple energy optimisation subsystems for building cooling, energy recovery, lighting, and building automation. This cost-effective, modular and scalable design fits easily into both brownfield and greenfield spaces, maximising energy efficiency and offering rapid return on investment.
Gareth Tang, Head of Smart Utilities and Infrastructure, Urban Solutions at ST Engineering, highlighted the difficulties building owners encounter in improving energy efficiency. He said, "Many building owners face challenges in making their buildings more energy efficient because of the limitations or fragmentation of their existing subsystems. Using our expertise in sensors, AI and sustainable cooling technology, we have developed a revolutionary approach to optimise energy use in buildings that harnesses energy savings from all sources."
The AGIL Smart Energy Building comprises several innovative solutions. These include Smart HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) that unifies disparate HVAC equipment on a single platform, enabling a more effective response to real-time cooling demand. AI Airflow evenly distributes cooling across the building, reducing overcooling in unused areas, while the patented REEVAC Deep Cooling technology reduces energy consumption by up to 30% compared to conventional systems by recovering residual cold energy.
The suite also includes Smart Lighting, which offers up to 50% energy savings compared to conventional indoor lighting systems, and Carbon Monitoring, which facilitates reporting of key ESG metrics and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in real-time.
Tang emphasised that AGIL Smart Energy Building focuses on cooling, a significant contributor to electricity usage in buildings. "AGIL Smart Energy Building targets building cooling, a major source of electricity consumption, and delivers a more targeted and effective response to real-time cooling needs."
The innovative solution is expected to offer significant energy savings, not only for individual buildings but can also be scaled to cover multiple buildings within an estate or township, significantly aggregating energy savings. The AGIL Smart Energy Building will be on display at the Singapore Airshow, scheduled from 20 to 25 February 2024.
