Siemens unveils Apple Wallet access for Building X users

Today

Siemens Smart Infrastructure has launched a new mobile access feature for its Building X Security Manager. In collaboration with LEGIC, the feature incorporates Apple Wallet integration.

This new development allows users to access buildings using Apple devices, such as iPhones or Apple Watches, by tapping a compatible card reader. The integration of LEGIC Connect service facilitates the seamless distribution of mobile credentials to smart devices, connecting users effortlessly to Apple Wallet.

Building X Security Manager is a cloud-based application that manages building access control. The updated solution extends the capabilities of the existing app, offering a more convenient and secure means for users to enter buildings using their Apple devices. The access process is streamlined, as users can simply place their device near a door's Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled lock to gain entry.

Apple Wallet organises various digital cards and keys, providing a single platform for managing credentials. With Apple Wallet's Express Mode, users do not need to unlock their devices to access their badges. Should an iPhone require charging, access is still possible for up to five hours due to its Power Reserve feature.

For building owners and security managers, Apple Wallet provides a secure platform for mobile credentials, enhancing efficiency and sustainability and eliminating the need for physical access keys. The devices' built-in privacy and security features reinforce the reliability of this access method.

Rahul Chillar, Executive Vice President of Software, Siemens Smart Infrastructure Buildings, said, "By collaborating with Apple and LEGIC, our Building X customers can enhance their experience when entering buildings. They will benefit from a streamlined access method that feels as natural as using their device for payments, leveraging a familiar and intuitive interface. We will also be using it for our own Siemens' buildings."

Building X is a digital platform designed to help clients digitalise and optimise building operations, improving user experience, performance, and sustainability. It is part of Siemens Xcelerator, a wider digital business platform that fosters digital transformation for customers at scale and pace.

Siemens and LEGIC plan to present this Apple Wallet integration for the Building X Security Manager at the upcoming Intersec 2025, which will be held in Dubai from January 14 to 16. This event will feature advancements in safety, security, and fire protection.
