Siemens adds Setmetrics tech to energy efficiency modelling

Tue, 18th Nov 2025

Siemens has acquired technology assets from Setmetrics to enhance the scenario modelling and energy efficiency model capabilities of Brightly Software, its asset investment planning business. This move broadens Siemens' sustainability tools for organisations focused on operational efficiency and carbon reduction in commercial real estate, education, and healthcare.

Technology expansion

The technology, developed by Australian software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider Setmetrics, enables the rapid creation of energy models, known as Energy Twins, for different types of buildings. The new offering supports scenario analysis, enabling clients to track outcomes related to facility conditions and energy performance.

Brightly Software, founded in Toronto, has an established presence in the integrated asset planning sector. It operates as a Siemens company, providing technology to both public and private sector clients looking to align their asset management with sustainability and financial benchmarks.

By integrating Setmetrics' technology, Brightly Software can now offer a Facility Health Energy Index as part of its Asset Investment Planning processes. This index is delivered within a lifecycle management platform that brings together operational, financial, and sustainability data for more comprehensive asset oversight. Siemens did not disclose the terms of the acquisition.

Simplified modelling

The Setmetrics energy modelling solution is described as lightweight and intuitive, supporting fast model development and reportedly reducing design effort by up to 80 per cent. This is seen as a significant improvement over traditional approaches, which often relied on manual and infrequent processes for asset energy efficiency assessments.

Brightly Software's expanded capabilities are designed to help asset owners identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and understand the sustainability impact of proposed investments or capital projects.

Digital twin integration

With the acquisition, Siemens has extended its digital twin framework, enabling more accurate modelling of investment impacts on both building condition and energy outputs. These insights are intended to support clients' sustainability initiatives and operational objectives over the lifecycle of their assets.

"This technology significantly elevates our digital twin capabilities, enabling us to model the impact of investments not just on facility condition, but also on critical energy performance," said Don Kurelich, CEO, Brightly Software. "This integrated foresight is paramount for our clients, empowering them to achieve ambitious sustainability goals and drive unparalleled operational efficiency."

Sector application

The solution targets asset owners and operators in commercial property, education, and healthcare sectors. Its scenario modelling functions aim to facilitate faster, data-driven decision making for investment planning and facility upgrades. Lifecycle planning tools, which now embed energy efficiency assessment throughout, enable organisations to better manage and maximise returns on infrastructure investments.

Clients can use the new capabilities to analyse a wide range of energy scenarios, either during the planning phase or when measuring ongoing returns from efficiency projects, helping to align operational missions with sustainability targets.
