Red Hat enhances developer hub with new AI templates

Yesterday

Red Hat has announced new capabilities and enhancements for the Red Hat Developer Hub, an enterprise-grade developer portal that supports AI-enabled application development.

These updates aim to assist organisations in navigating the complexities of application development, particularly those associated with integrating artificial intelligence (AI). Red Hat Developer Hub, which is based on the Backstage project, helps streamline development by providing a unified and open platform. Since its launch earlier in 2024, the platform has been adopted by over 20,000 developers, highlighting the importance of developer productivity.

"With the latest enhancements to Red Hat Developer Hub, organizations have capabilities to help them act more quickly and efficiently to bring AI strategies to life. For organisations just starting on their AI journey, Red Hat Developer Hub offers templates and resources to help them kick start AI development initiatives," stated the press release. "For those already executing on AI projects, Developer Hub can amplify efforts and consolidate disparate tools and models for streamlined access across teams."

Red Hat is introducing new AI-focused software templates designed to support developers in creating AI-enabled applications. These templates provide pre-architected and supported methods for developing and deploying AI services, minimising the need for developers to learn detailed technical implementations.

Among the five new templates introduced are applications for audio transcription, chatbot creation, and code generation. The templates also include solutions for object detection in images and Retrieval Augmented Generation chatbot applications, all designed to address common AI use cases.

"Developing AI-enabled applications adds another layer of complexity for developer teams, requiring them to manage new tooling, model integration, data security and more," commented Balaji Sivasubramanian, Senior Director of Developer Tools at Red Hat. "The latest enhancements to Red Hat Developer Hub help organisations jumpstart AI application development while at the same time helping them mitigate the complexities of pairing new development paradigms with existing workflows. Additionally, with Red Hat Developer Hub software catalog, teams can streamline the management of AI tools and resources, providing greater accessibility and consumability across teams."

The expanded capabilities of the Red Hat Developer Hub also encompass enhanced management and access to AI assets. Through its software catalog feature, developers and platform engineers can catalogue AI resources such as large language models, model servers, and associated application programming interfaces.

This feature allows for the centralisation of AI assets, facilitating easier access and management. The use of the catalog aims to address issues of resource constraints and skills gaps often encountered by developer teams working with AI technologies.
