Progress Software has added new features to its Agentic RAG platform, expanding how it ingests, retrieves and delivers content for AI tools.

The release includes a native Microsoft Teams app, a Smart Agent for multistep retrieval and a WordPress plugin for content ingestion. The additions are intended to help organisations use existing business knowledge across AI agents and large language models without rebuilding current deployments.

The platform is built around what Progress calls a shared Agentic Knowledge Layer, which connects enterprise information to AI-driven experiences. The latest version combines pre-ingested content stored in a governed Knowledge Box with access to live business systems and web sources through native Model Context Protocol support in the Smart Agent.

The approach targets a common challenge for companies extending AI beyond basic chat functions. As businesses deploy agents that can plan, retrieve information and act across multiple systems, engineering teams often have to build custom orchestration logic for every source an agent needs to access.

Progress said agents that rely only on pre-indexed content can return incomplete or outdated responses. Employees may also still need to move between applications to find information, limiting adoption and weakening returns on AI spending.

John Yang, Vice President, APJ, at Progress Software, framed the announcement against wider business pressures in the region.

"Organisations across Asia Pacific are navigating rapid growth, evolving customer expectations and increasing operational complexity. AI has the potential to help address all three, but only when it can draw on the knowledge that already exists across the business. We believe the next phase of AI adoption will be defined less by the models themselves and more by how effectively organisations can put their knowledge to work," said Yang.

Teams integration

One part of the update is a Teams app available through the Microsoft Store. Progress said it brings source-cited AI responses into Teams chats and channels, allowing employees to access internal knowledge within a collaboration tool they already use.

The Teams integration keeps existing permissions and governance controls in place. That means businesses can surface AI-driven responses in day-to-day workflows without requiring staff to leave Teams to search other systems.

Multistep retrieval

The new Smart Agent is designed to break a query into sub-questions, retrieve information from a Knowledge Box, MCP-connected applications and web sources, then assess whether enough information has been gathered. According to Progress, this process can help organisations answer more complex questions that span several systems.

The feature also addresses a technical challenge in enterprise AI deployments. Rather than requiring teams to build source-routing and orchestration logic for each use case, the Smart Agent is positioned as a way to reduce integration work while still allowing access to live systems when a question is asked.

Content control

The third element of the release is a native WordPress plugin. Progress said it gives administrators more control over how WordPress content is indexed and refreshed inside the Agentic RAG platform.

By preserving structure, metadata and taxonomy information, the plugin is intended to improve retrieval quality and help keep AI responses aligned with current source material. Progress also said it strengthens governance over enterprise knowledge, an issue that has become more prominent as organisations seek to use internal documents and web content in AI systems.

For existing customers, the three additions can be used with the same indexed content, access controls and quality framework already in place. Progress said the release does not require reindexing, rebuilding data pipelines or making architectural changes.

John Ainsworth, EVP and General Manager, Application and Data Platform, at Progress Software, said the latest release reflects a shift in how enterprise buyers are assessing AI systems.

"The next phase of enterprise AI will not be defined by systems that simply retrieve information. It will be defined by AI that can navigate complex questions, work across organisational knowledge and deliver answers where people already work," said Ainsworth.

"The latest release of Progress Agentic RAG allows organisations to more easily address increasingly complex questions by building on its strong foundation of delivering trusted AI experiences that drive successful business outcomes," he said.
