Philippine Airlines adopts digital fleet planning with Lufthansa

Wed, 17th Sep 2025

Philippine Airlines has entered into an agreement with Lufthansa Systems to implement advanced digital flight planning and crew management solutions.

The carrier will deploy Lido Flight 4D and a new crew management solution as part of its modernisation strategy aimed at strengthening flight safety, operational reliability, and punctuality.

Flight planning upgrades

The Lido Flight 4D solution is expected to provide Philippine Airlines' dispatch teams with capabilities such as automated flight planning, route optimisation, and improved fuel efficiency. The system utilises real-time data, including operational information, dynamic weather conditions, and airspace restrictions, and features rule-based automation to enable dispatchers to effectively manage flights and focus on exceptions.

According to Philippine Airlines, this initiative is intended to support the airline's commitment to maintaining high safety standards for both passengers and crew.

"Our number one priority is safety – for both our passengers and our crew," said Capt. Roland Narciso, Senior Vice President – Operations Group at Philippine Airlines. "With Lufthansa Systems, we found a technology partner that offers aviation-specific functionality and a consistent data foundation. Their flight planning and crew solutions provide system and data integration, which will help us operate smoother, safer, and more efficient flights."

The implementation of the Lido Flight 4D platform is part of a digital transformation strategy designed to streamline and automate airline workflows, ultimately supporting operational excellence.

Crew management enhancements

The agreement also covers a new crew management solution intended to assist crew planners and controllers in resource allocation and scheduling. The platform utilises machine learning and optimisation techniques to reduce rostering cycle times, aiming to facilitate equitable and robust resource planning that meets both operational demands and crew well-being.

International collaboration

Lufthansa Systems expressed its support for the project and the significance of the partnership with Philippine Airlines.

"Philippine Airlines is a significant airline internationally and in Southeast Asia, and we are proud to be their partner in establishing a more resilient, operational environment with seamless system integration and data accuracy, enhancing its ground-to-air operations," said David Parrish, Senior Vice President, Head of Sales & Client Management at Lufthansa Systems Asia Pacific.

Both parties highlighted the advantages of system and data integration for overall operational continuity and the potential benefits for passengers and crews alike.

Operational context

Philippine Airlines operates a network of domestic and international flights across Asia, North America, Australia, and the Middle East from its hubs in Manila, Cebu, Clark, and Davao. Its fleet comprises Boeing, Airbus, and De Havilland aircraft operating over 60 destinations.

The upgrades to its operational platforms form part of its broader approach to maintaining reliability and efficiency while adapting to changing requirements in global aviation.

Lufthansa Systems provides IT solutions to over 350 airline customers and has experience in aviation software for flight deck, cabin, and ground operations. The company maintains a presence in 16 countries, with its headquarters in Raunheim near Frankfurt.

The partnership marks a step for Philippine Airlines in adopting new technologies to support its core goals in safety, reliability and service quality, while also aiming to optimise its operational processes across flight and crew management.
