FYI, this story is more than a year old

Orbbec, a pioneer in 3D vision technology, has announced the launch of its latest product, the Persee N1. This innovative product presents an integration of a 3D camera and a purpose-built computer based on the NVIDIA Jetson platform. It is ideally designed for sectors such as logistics, robotics, retail, health technology, and gaming, providing highly precise and dependable data for indoor and semi-outdoor operations. The Persee N1 is competitively priced at $499, with price reductions available for significant volume purchases.

The Persee N1, released by Orbbec, is described as a camera-computer kit for 3D vision enthusiasts, running on the power of the NVIDIA Jetson platform. This feature-loaded RGB-D camera-computer serves as a ready-to-implement solution for 3D vision application developers and experimenters. The all-in-one hardware includes a popular stereo-vision 3D camera and a purpose-built computer with the industry-standard interfaces for the most beneficial accessories and data connections. Developers will also appreciate the advantages of the Ubuntu OS and OpenCV libraries included in this new product.

The Persee N1 ensures an effortless setup process utilising the Orbbec SDK and Ubuntu-based software environment. It incorporates the industry-approved Gemini 2 camera, based on active stereo IR technology, including Orbbec's custom ASIC for high-quality, in-camera depth processing. The powerful NVIDIA Jetson platform for edge AI and robotics is an essential part of this product. It also offers HDMI and USB ports for straightforward connection to a monitor and keyboard, multiple USB ports for data and POE (Power over Ethernet) port for amalgamated data and power connections, and expandable storage with MicroSD and M.2 slots.

Amit Banerjee, Head of Platform and Partnerships at Orbbec commented on the new product launch by stating, "The self-contained Persee N1 camera-computer makes it easy for computer vision developers to experiment with 3D vision. This combination of our Gemini 2 RGB-D camera and the NVIDIA Jetson platform for edge AI and robotics enhances AI development whilst facilitating large-scale cloud-based commercial deployments."

Furthermore, this new camera module offers official support for the commonplace Open Computer Vision (OpenCV) library. OpenCV is employed in approximately 89% of all embedded vision projects, according to industry reports. This functionality denotes the initiation of a more profound partnership between Orbbec and OpenCV, governed by the non-profit Open Source Vision Foundation.

Dr. Satya Mullick, the CEO of OpenCV, voiced his opinion on the new product stating, "The Persee N1 features robust support for the industry-standard computer vision and AI toolkit from OpenCV. OpenCV and Orbbec have entered a partnership to certify OpenCV compatibility with Orbbec's powerful new devices and are jointly developing new capabilities for the 3D vision community." This statement signifies the beginning of a promising collaboration, which will likely lead to more innovative solutions for the 3D vision sector.
