Nidec adopts Siemens Teamcenter X for digital motor innovation

Mon, 4th Aug 2025

Nidec Corporation has chosen Teamcenter X software from Siemens to support its development and supply of electric motors, including applications in the automotive sector.

Siemens Digital Industries Software confirmed that Nidec, a Japanese manufacturer and distributor of electric motors, will use Teamcenter X as part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. The software will be implemented for both Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Quality Management System (QMS) functions, targeting enhanced traceability and configuration management across the company's operations.

Operational focus

Nidec's adoption of Teamcenter X aims to optimise business processes and support connectivity between development and production. As part of the implementation, Nidec will leverage Siemens' Quality Management solutions to address Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and control plans. The intention is to meet various QMS certification requirements and create deeper integration between Nidec's Opcenter Manufacturing Execution System (MES) processes and their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

The focus on a digital thread spanning the lifecycle and quality management processes is expected to contribute to efficiencies in motor development and delivery, which the company describes as critical to its strategy of setting new industry standards.

Executive viewpoints

"Teamcenter X enables Nidec to establish a culture of innovation backed up with industry proven lifecycle management and quality management digital thread that will allow us to develop and deliver high quality innovative products that help accelerate the future of mobility and electrification," said Mr. Michio Kaida, First Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Nidec Corporation.

From Siemens' perspective, the collaboration has the potential to facilitate digital transformation at Nidec, supporting the organisation's move towards more integrated and optimised operations.

"Siemens is delighted that NIDEC has selected Siemens Xcelerator and recognized the benefits that a SaaS based PLM environment can bring to organizations that are looking to digitally transform and bring new efficiencies and optimize how their businesses operate," said Kunihiko Horita, Country Manager and Vice President, Siemens Digital Industries Software, Japan.
"We look forward to helping Nidec to achieve its goals of establishing reliable processes, data integration and delivering its quality management requirements."

Quality and integration

Integration across systems has been highlighted as a core element of the new deployment. The enhanced traceability provided by the digital PLM and QMS solutions is expected to support Nidec in meeting industry quality standards, addressing product planning, identifying possible failure modes, and implementing appropriate controls throughout manufacturing processes.

This deeper connection between Nidec's manufacturing execution and enterprise planning systems is designed to create a comprehensive digital environment, reflecting broader industry trends towards digitisation in manufacturing and supply chain operations.

Industry context

Organisations in manufacturing sectors are increasingly adopting Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for PLM and QMS to achieve higher levels of process integration and compliance. The adoption of Teamcenter X allows Nidec to manage product data and quality information centrally, supporting its ongoing product development and certification strategies.

Nidec's utilisation of Siemens' software aligns with the company's goal of creating consistent, reliable, and auditable business processes that meet both internal and industry requirements, especially as electrification continues to grow in prominence within the automotive and industrial sectors.
