New robotic palletising solution launched for Singapore SMEs
ProPal Robotics and OnRobot have introduced Southeast Asia's first off-the-shelf palletising automation solution aimed at addressing labour challenges among Singapore's SME manufacturers.
The collaboration between ProPal Robotics, a Singapore-based company, and OnRobot, known for cobot applications, has resulted in the launch of the ProPal20 and ProPal20L systems. These systems are powered by the D:PLOY platform from OnRobot, which supports same-day installation, requires no programming skills, and can be re-deployed quickly.
James Taylor, Chief Operating Officer of OnRobot, stated, "While robotics is the most logical solution, there are still barriers to deploying robotics as it can be a time-consuming and costly endeavour for SMEs, who often lack the capital, programming skills, and scale to justify the investment."
The solution addresses the manual labour challenges currently faced by Singapore's SME manufacturers in the palletising process. James explained, "Traditionally palletising is carried out by manual labour due to the high mix nature of production lines with one line often catering to different box sizes. This makes automation costly and difficult as programming and re-programming is time-consuming and requires external technical expertise."
The ProPal systems aim to make palletising more accessible by allowing operators without programming experience to modify processes easily. James added, "Thanks to D:PLOY, the ProPal20 allows operators with no programming skills to make their own modifications to the application. Switching between box types can sizes on the same line can be completed within minutes, keeping the production line moving with no disruptions."
The palletising solution includes the JAKA Zu20 cobot, which can handle loads of up to 20kg, and the OnRobot VGP20 gripper, designed for efficient picking and packaging of goods. The OR:BASE controller, combined with D:PLOY software, ensures ease of use and workflow optimisation.
Charles Toh, Sales Manager for ProPal Robotics, expressed optimism regarding the impact of the ProPal systems, saying "OnRobot have the resources to maintain and continually improve the software, and the customer is empowered to use the system flexibly."
James emphasised the intent behind the partnership, "OnRobot and ProPal Robotics investment in Singapore aims to enable SME manufacturers that are currently facing workforce challenges and require a cost-effective solution for high mix palletising applications."
He added, "We partner with local companies who can best serve the local market; this is our tried-and-trusted global model."
The ProPal20 and ProPal20L are being offered at introductory prices of SGD $73,000 and SGD $89,000, respectively, excluding GST. The equipment comes with training, installation, and a 12-month warranty.
