Maxis announces enhanced collaboration with Google Cloud for GenAI expansion
Thu, 29th Feb 2024

Maxis has unveiled its expansion of a strategic collaboration with Google Cloud, moving into an enhanced integration of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) within its operational and customer service workflows. This progressive initiative aims to revolutionise digital transformation within enterprise businesses, with Maxis providing support for both public and private sectors, the company states.

This collaboration will see Maxis leveraging Google Cloud’s Duet AI for Developers, a platform enabling AI-powered coding assistance in natural language. Furthermore, the Gemini models on the Vertex AI platform will facilitate multimodal capabilities within the customer service sphere. These platform integrations stand to transform Maxis' internal processes with expectations of productivity boosts, enhanced customer behaviour modelling, and novel operational insights, the company states.

The implementation of Google Cloud's GenAI capabilities aims to augment enterprise data controls and privacy protections, while creating a more secure environment for Maxis' operations and customer base. Ng May Ching, Chief Information Officer at Maxis, emphasised the beneficial shift stating, "Embracing cutting-edge GenAI in our workplace not only automates processes but empowers employees to focus on strategic tasks while streamlining processes. Through AI integration, we can enhance efficiency, elevate customer service with data-driven insights and foster continuous improvement."

Patrick Wee, Country Manager, Malaysia, Google Cloud, highlighted Maxis' foresightedness in integrating with Google Cloud's data management and machine learning platforms back in 2020. "This foundation now enables Maxis to apply Google Cloud's enterprise-grade GenAI capabilities at speed and scale to unlock its data's full potential and drive tangible business value."

In addition, Maxis is planning to extend GenAI learning into its flagship community initiatives, eKelas Usahawan and eKelas. By upskilling individuals and school students, it seeks to prepare them for an increasingly AI-centric world. Maxis, together with Google Cloud, will concurrently enhance GenAI applications for data analytics and cybersecurity, and extend such opportunities for learning to Maxis employees.

This collaboration was announced amid the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, held in Barcelona, Spain. Maxis' participation forms part of the Malaysian Pavilion. The company plans to forge further innovation-led partnerships during MWC 2024 as part of the Malaysian delegation.

Maxis is Malaysia's integrated telco, providing digital services and connectivity solutions. As a homegrown Malaysian brand, the company has been serving Malaysians for more than 28 years. With digitalisation changing the way we live, communicate and access services, Maxis states the company is focused on being at the forefront of innovation through products and services for consumers and enterprises, leveraging its converged network that extends to over 94% of the country's population.
