Lintasarta unveils GPU Merdeka for AI infrastructure in Indonesia

Thu, 22nd Aug 2024

Lintaarta, an Indonesian ICT solutions provider and subsidiary of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, has announced the launch of its latest product, GPU Merdeka. The launch event took place at the Kempinski Hotel in Jakarta, featuring notable national and international speakers, including Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, and Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi.

GPU Merdeka is a GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) designed for AI infrastructure, aimed at advancing supercomputing capabilities in Indonesia. Powered by NVIDIA's accelerated computing, the service promises enhanced performance for generative AI, machine learning, rendering, and computer-aided design (CAD) applications. This domestic AI cloud platform is intended to offer Indonesian businesses powerful specifications while maintaining cost and energy efficiency.

The launch underscores the collaboration between Lintasarta and NVIDIA, which began earlier in 2024. Deb Goswami, Head of Developer Programs for Big Data and Analytics in the ASEAN and ANZ Regions at NVIDIA, commented on the service, stating, "Lintasarta has implemented NVIDIA accelerated computing in GPU Merdeka, helping enable high-performance AI cloud services to empower Indonesia with sovereign AI."

The infrastructure of GPU Merdeka is hosted within Lintasarta's high-density data centres, managed by skilled Indonesian IT professionals. This positions GPU Merdeka as a significant step towards supporting the growth and development of national industries and the economy. Lintasarta aims to drive the digital transformation of national industry players by facilitating collaboration and accelerating the growth of the national digital economy.

Specific advantages of GPU Merdeka include its high-performance GPU servers configured with 8x NVIDIA H100 SXM Tensor Core GPUs per server. This setup supports applications requiring high accuracy and performance, such as TNavigator and SLB Petrel in the oil and gas industry, and AutoCAD for rendering and 3D modelling. The NVIDIA H100 SXM GPU can handle advanced generative AI workloads with support for 3.35 TB/s bandwidth, featuring third-generation RT Cores ideal for high-end rendering tasks.

The infrastructure is designed to handle up to 20 KW per rack, with data centre connectivity capabilities of up to 3.2 Tbps Infiniband RDMA per server. Additionally, NVIDIA GPUDirect access to storage enhances overall service performance. Customers will benefit from free internet traffic up to 100 Gbps, along with integrated DDoS protection for heightened security.

President Director and CEO of Lintasarta, Bayu Hanantasena, emphasized the company's commitment to empowering Indonesia through technological innovation. "GPU Merdeka is a step towards empowering Indonesia through advanced technology solutions to help companies from various industrial sectors accelerate digital transformation with optimal results. GPU Merdeka aligns with Lintasarta's noble goal of empowering Indonesia to accelerate the nation's digital potential," Bayu said. He added that this new service launch positions Indonesia at the forefront of the global AI cloud community.

Vikram Sinha, President Director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, expressed pride in the launch. "We are proud to announce the launch of Lintasarta's GPU Merdeka. As part of the Indosat group, Lintasarta plays a crucial role in paving the way for our transformative journey into becoming an AI-native TechCo. We believe that the technology and expertise offered by Lintasarta will bring us closer to fulfilling our larger purpose of empowering Indonesia and propel the way towards achieving the 2045 Golden Indonesia Vision," Sinha stated.
