Jobstreet Express celebrates a year of impact in Singapore

Mon, 9th Dec 2024

Jobstreet Express by SEEK has marked its first anniversary, highlighting its impact on semi-skilled hiring in Singapore amid persistent hiring challenges in roles such as cleaners, customer service staff, and waiters.

The platform has been identified as an essential hiring partner for high-demand industries, aligning with the Ministry of Manpower's (MOM) emphasis on labour market resilience and the need to overcome barriers such as unattractive pay and demanding work conditions.

According to Juairi Jaafar, General Manager of Jobstreet Express Singapore, "As the backbone of many industries, semi-skilled roles are pivotal to Singapore's economy, yet they remain one of the most underserved segments in hiring. In our first year, we've connected businesses and job seekers with unmatched efficiency, and we remain dedicated to supporting these vital industries with innovative solutions."

Addressing key hiring challenges, Jobstreet Express has reported significant growth in job postings in the retail sector, with a more than threefold increase between the first and third quarters of 2024. This growth has paralleled broader market trends, showcasing the platform's role in catering to urgent workforce needs.

The platform has highlighted the top most applied-for roles, including Admin Clerk, Warehouse Assistant, and Sales Promoter. Meanwhile, positions such as Admin Clerk, Sales Promoter, and General Worker remain the most in demand, further spotlighting Jobstreet Express's prowess in matching job seekers with suitable opportunities.

An obstacle increasingly associated with semi-skilled roles is the tendency for positions to stay unfilled for extended periods due to conditions such as unattractive pay scales and demanding schedules. Jobstreet Express's approach to matching candidates based on interests and capabilities has provided an effective means for businesses to recruit and fill these roles swiftly.

Looking forward to 2025, Jobstreet Express anticipates significant transformations in labour market dynamics, fuelled by technological advancements and ongoing government initiatives. With a focus on upskilling and career advancement for lower-wage workers, these efforts are expected to bolster a more inclusive and resilient workforce.

Juairi Jaafar commented, "At Jobstreet Express, we are committed to being at the forefront of these changes, equipping employers and job seekers with unique tools and actionable insights needed to navigate this evolving market successfully. With a commitment to innovation, Jobstreet Express is positioned as a leader in talent solutions for semi-skilled roles."

The platform's mobile-first approach, leveraging tools like video screening, has facilitated recruiters' evaluation of candidates more efficiently, demonstrating its capability to transform the hiring experience and support Singapore's workforce amidst an evolving job market landscape.
