Identity Digital teams up with Shadowserver to fight cybercrime
Identity Digital has joined the Shadowserver Foundation's Alliance in a partnership aimed at reducing malicious online activity.
The alliance combines Identity Digital's expertise in domain management with Shadowserver's internet security intelligence capabilities, giving the domain extension provider access to real-time threat data, cybersecurity professionals, and rapid reporting mechanisms designed to identify and neutralise emerging online threats.
The Shadowserver Foundation, described as a cybersecurity foundation devoted to reducing online threats through threat detection and expedited removal, works with multiple organisations globally to share threat intelligence and enhance public internet safety. Identity Digital becomes the latest company to join the alliance, alongside Mastercard, Craig Newmark Philanthropies, Avast, and others.
Identity Digital manages nearly 300 top-level domains and supports over 28 million domain registrations. Shadowserver collects and analyses large volumes of malicious internet activity data, sharing it with network owners and relevant authorities worldwide.
Ram Mohan, Chief Strategy Officer of Identity Digital, commented on the partnership: "As a global registry leader, we recognize our pivotal role in fostering a secure and trusted online ecosystem. Joining the Shadowserver Foundation reinforces our commitment to combatting DNS-based attacks and safeguarding important digital infrastructure relied upon by millions."
According to both organisations, the increasing sophistication of online threats makes collaboration between domain registries and security foundations critical. The partnership is intended to help mitigate risks from phishing schemes, malware distribution, and other forms of malicious online activity by giving Identity Digital enhanced intelligence and the ability to act swiftly.
By contributing operational knowledge and leveraging Shadowserver's threat intelligence, Identity Digital plans to play an active role in enhancing the Foundation's stated mission of making the internet safer.
Piotr Kijewski, Chief Executive Officer of Shadowserver, said: "The integration of a global registry leader like Identity Digital into our efforts marks a significant leap towards a safer Internet. Domain registries are a fundamental part of internet infrastructure and can help play an important role in cybersecurity defense. This partnership allows us to combine our threat intelligence with their ability to take immediate action at the domain level. Together, we can more effectively disrupt malicious actors before they can cause widespread harm."
The collaboration includes a focus on DNS-based threats and is expected to foster a more resilient online environment by coordinating efforts with other registries, registrars, internet hosting providers, and digital platforms.
Identity Digital aims to use the partnership as part of its ongoing efforts to anticipate and address increasingly complex cyber attacks, working alongside other actors within the global internet infrastructure ecosystem.
