Thu, 11th Apr 2024

Fortinet has released its 2023 Sustainability Report. The annual report provides a comprehensive overview of the company's approach and progress on critical sustainability issues, aligning with the interests of its stakeholders that range from employees and investors to suppliers, partners, and customers.

Ken Xie, Fortinet's founder, chairman of the board, and chief executive officer, said, "Our commitment to sustainability is critical to help address today's societal challenges while supporting the long-term success and resilience of our business. As part of this commitment, our work in building a safer digital world has become mission-critical and essential to our society and economy. While we are proud of the progress in this year's sustainability report, we are mindful that advancing our sustainability goals and efforts is a continuous journey of improvement."

The report highlights the four overarching pillars of Fortinet's sustainability approach: addressing cyber risks to society, diversifying cybersecurity talent, respecting the environment, and promoting responsible business across its value chain. Fortinet joined the UN Global Compact in 2023, committing to its principles concerning human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. The cybersecurity giant was also recognised in the 2023 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for the second year, affirming its enduring dedication to sustainable practices.

Among the integral highlights of the Fortinet 2023 Sustainability Report: progress towards net-zero greenhouse gas emission targets supported by investment in green energy sources, improved product energy efficiency, sustainable packaging initiatives, training objectives in cybersecurity, internal diversity, equity and inclusion programs, and a commitment to ethical business practices and legal compliance. A noteworthy achievement for the company in recent times has been the progress towards training one million people in cybersecurity by 2026, with Fortinet standing at 43% of this ambitious five-year goal as of December 31, 2023.

In the push for creating a safer digital world, Fortinet has made strident efforts to combat cybercrime through collaboration. The company joined the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative in 2023 and contributed to the arrest of 15 cybercriminal groups and the prevention of US$40 million in financial losses through the INTERPOL Gateway program.

Further affirming its commitment to optimal information security and privacy, Fortinet launched its Trust Resource Center to offer customers visibility on certifications, compliance, and security information. Furthermore, the company renewed information security certifications and examinations and completed new ones, including expanding the products and services covered by ISO 27001, SOC 2, and HIPAA.

The 2023 Sustainability Report follows the guidelines laid down by the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, the Global Reporting Standards Initiative, Sustainability Accountability Standards Board standards, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, providing a thorough account of Fortinet's progress across eight priority issues.
