Digital Realty & BW Digital boost Singapore-Batam data links
Digital Realty and BW Digital have formed a partnership to strengthen data centre-to-data centre connectivity between Singapore and Batam, Indonesia. The agreement supports the rollout and integration of BW Digital's Nongsa Changi Cable System (NCC), a submarine cable designed to deliver significant new network capacity between the two markets by directly linking BW Digital's Nongsa Digital Park in Batam with Digital Realty's SIN12 data centre in Singapore.
Direct cable landing
The NCC submarine cable will land directly in the SIN12 facility, providing enterprises with enhanced resilience and capacity for cross-border network traffic. The cable is engineered to deliver more than 1.6 petabits per second and less than 2 milliseconds of latency between Singapore and Batam. These specifications are aimed at meeting increasing demand for fast, reliable connections that support modern cloud, artificial intelligence, and hyperscale workloads in Southeast Asia.
Supporting digital growth
With Batam positioned as a potential regional hub for hyperscale and AI-driven infrastructure, the direct integration of NCC with SIN12 is intended to facilitate efficient data exchange and enable future data growth. Digital Realty's SIN12 facility provides access to high-performance infrastructure at scale, offering companies confidence in expanding operations across Southeast Asia. Additionally, customers hosted at SIN12 will be able to establish cross-connects to other providers within the facility, supporting broad connectivity needs and cost efficiencies.
Integration with global platforms
The partnership also includes technical integration of BW Digital's subsea system with Digital Realty's global PlatformDIGITAL, which aims to accelerate access for enterprise and cloud provider customers to scalable and high-performance digital infrastructure. Under this collaboration, BW Digital customers are positioned to expand their connectivity ecosystems and scale artificial intelligence workloads through direct interconnections in Singapore.
Batam data centre expansion
BW Digital's NDP-1 data centre in Batam is currently under development and, once operational, is poised to provide 144MW of capacity including liquid cooling capabilities. This facility will offer direct access to the Nongsa Changi Cable System's landing station, enabling low-latency and resilient links to key regional markets. Enterprises operating in the Singapore-Johor-Riau (SIJORI) growth triangle-the so-called Singapore+ region-will be able to access new options for colocation and cloud connectivity as a result of this infrastructure expansion.
Addressing demand for AI infrastructure
Both organisations are positioning this connectivity upgrade as a response to accelerated demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and high-capacity data storage across Southeast Asia. By linking land-based digital platforms and submarine cable infrastructure, the agreement is set to address market requirements for secure and scalable interconnection while supporting rapid digital transformation across the region.
Strategic perspectives
"Subsea networks are central to Southeast Asia's digital economy, and Singapore continues to serve as a critical gateway for regional data exchange. By integrating BW Digital's Nongsa-Changi system into SIN12, we are working to deliver faster and more resilient connectivity to support customers as they scale next-generation workloads. This collaboration reinforces our commitment to strengthening the interconnection foundation that powers the region's digital growth"," said Serene Nah, Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific, Digital Realty.
"This partnership represents a major milestone for BW Digital, aligning with our mission to support digital transformation by bridging the gap between submarine cable infrastructure and land-based digital platforms in a way that is efficient, secure, and future-ready," said Virginie Frouin, Chief Business Officer, BW Digital.
"We are hoping to enable AI workloads, provide reliable, secure connectivity between Singapore and Batam, support for rising demand in cross-border data exchange, and ongoing collaboration with Digital Realty to empower customers with greater interconnection flexibility," said Frouin.
