CompTIA forms ASEAN Community Executive Council to boost tech industry growth
Mon, 27th Nov 2023

The trade association for the global IT industry, CompTIA, has declared the members of its newly introduced ASEAN Community Executive Council. Furthermore, the ASEAN Community was unveiled with an objective to assist technology firms in their growth.

It aims to do this by providing advice and best practices on delivering superior customer experiences, advocating the adoption of emergent technologies, and fostering the expansion of the tech workforce.

CompTIA, as part of its global expansion, has formally inaugurated the CompTIA ASEAN Community. This newly formed community is a strategic alliance for Asian Technology companies operating in the IT channel such as managed service providers (MSPs), solution providers, technology vendors, distributors, and channel consulting firms.

The Executive Council of the community consists of executives and leaders from 13 diverse organisations across the ASEAN region, who met recently in Singapore to establish their plans and priorities for the year 2024.

MJ Shoer, the Chief Community Officer at CompTIA, stated after the first executive council gathering, "We had incredible engagement at our inaugural executive council meeting."

He also expressed the unified commitment among the council members to work collectively in upcoming months and years for the betterment of the technology industry in the ASEAN region.

The CompTIA ASEAN Community is led by Shane Han from Sophos as the executive council chair and Michael Tea from Google as the vice chair. Other notable council members include representatives from organizations like Barracuda Networks, Couchbase, 7-Network, Smarter Computer, Nanyang Tech, HPE Services, Acuutech, FUJIFILM Business Innovation, Microsoft and Jam Factory.

Rose Stamell, the ANZ and ASEAN community manager of CompTIA, attributed the value of the community to these executive council members, who serve as influencers and ambassadors. She shared, "Their experience and expertise will be invaluable as we work together to solve common business problems, grow the tech industry and promote career opportunities in the tech workforce."

The ASEAN Community launch comes at a time when the region’s tech companies are generally optimistic about their industry, despite facing the challenge of a rapidly changing market, as per the research by CompTIA. The said companies are challenged with providing superior customer experiences, embracing emerging technologies and making improvements in the areas of marketing and branding.

CompTIA operates six regional communities across the globe including North America (United States, Canada), United Kingdom and Ireland, ANZ (Australia, New Zealand) DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg), and now ASEAN.

The organisation is focused on empowering the tech industry and its workforce through community, education, training, certifications, advocacy, philanthropy, and market research, making it an influential voice and advocate for the global information technology ecosystem, which is estimated at $5 trillion.
