Canon launches Workplace AI to boost security & efficiency

Thu, 18th Sep 2025

Canon has introduced Workplace AI, the latest addition to its Smart Surveillance Portfolio, offering an end-to-end Edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) solution aimed at providing real-time monitoring, threat detection and automated insights for businesses across multiple sectors.

Workplace AI has been launched with the intention of aligning with Singapore's National AI Strategy (NAIS 2.0) and supports the government's investment exceeding SGD $1 billion over the next five years to further AI industry development, improve computational capabilities and encourage industry innovation.

According to Canon, the new solution allows industries such as education, manufacturing, healthcare, transportation and city management to collect operational intelligence, analyse trends, generate reports and make data-driven decisions to enhance security, efficiency and compliance at scale.

Market context

Canon has highlighted that Workplace AI can be adaptively deployed due to its flexible and modular design, enabling cost-efficient integration without the need for significant hardware upgrades. The platform's intelligent video analytics and automation are designed to help organisations manage risks and support operational resilience.

"As Singapore accelerates towards an AI-driven economy, organisations across multiple sectors are looking for smarter, more resilient ways to operate," said Mr. Andrew Koh, Senior Vice President and Head of Singapore Operations Group, Canon Singapore. "Workplace AI helps businesses to unlock actionable insights, enabling them to anticipate challenges, seize opportunities and build a more sustainable, future-ready enterprise."

Workplace AI is supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) under the Advanced Digital Solutions (ADS) initiative for the Early Childhood sector, particularly for Video Analytics for Safety. The initiative is designed to help enterprises deepen their digital capabilities and strengthen business continuity measures, contributing to ongoing digital transformation and resilience.

Applications in education

The deployment of Workplace AI within educational institutions is reported to deliver safety enhancements, resource management and streamlined live data operations. For universities and other tertiary institutions, the system supports analysis of space utilisation for improved planning and scheduling, as well as the monitoring of safety protocols, including student adherence to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements in hands-on environments.

Within preschools and childcare centres, Workplace AI automates surveillance monitoring and incident detection using AI-powered video analytics. The platform integrates with existing CCTV systems and incorporates advanced privacy masking to safeguard identities. Customisable dashboards provide real-time operational insights, aiming to enhance oversight without compromising child safety and development.

Adoption in aerospace

For industries such as aerospace, the solution is positioned as a tool for improving safety, security and operational performance. AI-driven video analytics can proactively detect unsafe behaviours, such as the absence of safety vests or improper crossing of designated walkways. The reporting functionalities are intended to aid in the identification of process bottlenecks and the verification of regulatory compliance.

Technology recognition

Workplace AI has received recognition at the SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2025 for the Facial Recognition Aviation category. Canon has stated this reflects its ongoing commitment to surveillance technology advancement.

The company also plans to continue developing strategic partnerships, with support from Canon Group companies Axis Communications and Milestone Systems, directed at promoting innovation in the sector. These initiatives aim to nurture future talent and foster a collaborative environment for the next generation of professionals in surveillance technology.

Canon concluded that through such efforts, it intends to contribute to the development of a more intelligent and safer society.
