BlueVoyant has appointed John Hernandez as Chief Executive Officer, while Co-founder James Rosenthal has moved to chair of the board.

Hernandez succeeds Rosenthal at the cybersecurity company after senior roles across software and technology groups including Quest Software, Salesforce, IBM and Cisco. At Quest Software, he was president and general manager of its Microsoft Platform Management business.

He will lead global strategy, innovation and operations, including expansion of BlueVoyant's AI-led cybersecurity platform as the company works to bring more of its services into a single offering.

Founded in 2017, BlueVoyant serves more than 1,000 clients in 45 countries and says it processes 38 million alerts a day. Its offerings include managed detection and response, third-party risk management and digital risk protection.

The appointment comes as cybersecurity providers face growing pressure from customers to simplify fragmented security tools and respond faster to increasingly complex threats. BlueVoyant is seeking to develop a more unified model that combines analytics with human oversight.

Before joining BlueVoyant, Hernandez led Quest Software's Microsoft Platform Management operation, focused on security, identity and data management for Microsoft hybrid and cloud environments. He also previously led the transformation of a USD $1 billion business at Genesys into a cloud-agnostic, AI-driven platform.

Leadership change

Rosenthal will remain involved as chair of the board, while current chair Tom Glocer will become vice-chairman. The reshuffle keeps BlueVoyant's co-founder in a senior governance role while handing day-to-day leadership to an executive brought in from outside the business.

In his first comments on the appointment, Hernandez pointed to the growing complexity of cyber threats and the need for companies to integrate detection, risk and response. He said BlueVoyant was well positioned to meet that demand as organisations look for more joined-up security models.

"I am excited to guide BlueVoyant into its next phase, especially as AI continues to increase the complexity of cyber threats," said John Hernandez, Chief Executive Officer of BlueVoyant. "Cybersecurity is entering a new phase where speed, intelligence, and integration will define the winners. Organisations need to move beyond fragmented approaches and toward a more unified model that brings together detection, risk, and response. BlueVoyant is uniquely built for this moment, and I look forward to leveraging my extensive experience to help drive the innovation needed to protect our clients worldwide."

One area of focus will be third-party risk management, with BlueVoyant planning to expand continuous and automated monitoring to replace periodic assessments with ongoing visibility into supplier-related exposure.

Board transition

Rosenthal, who helped found the company, backed the succession decision and Hernandez's record in scaling software businesses. His move to chair follows his tenure building BlueVoyant from launch into an international cybersecurity supplier.

"It has been an honour to lead such an innovative organisation from its inception to where it stands today," said James Rosenthal, Chairman of the board of BlueVoyant. "Together with our leadership team, employees, customers and partners, we've built something incredible that will only continue to grow. John's experience scaling enterprise platforms and driving innovation makes him the right leader to guide BlueVoyant into its next phase of growth and market leadership. More importantly, he understands what our clients need from us, and what this team is capable of achieving."

Glocer also endorsed the appointment as the board structure changes, with his move from chair to vice-chairman forming part of the wider leadership transition.

"I am delighted to welcome John to the BlueVoyant team on behalf of the Board," said Tom Glocer, Vice-chairman of BlueVoyant. "His extensive cybersecurity and product development leadership experience uniquely positions him to guide BlueVoyant in our next chapter. I also want to express our gratitude to Jim for taking the company from an idea he and I discussed to a growth company well into nine figures."
