BDx secures PLN power deal to boost Indonesia’s AI data centres

Today

BDx Indonesia has signed a power purchase agreement with PT PLN, Indonesia's state-owned electricity company, to supply 30 MVA of electricity to support the operations of its data centres.

This agreement is a crucial step for BDx Indonesia, a subsidiary of BDx Data Centres, as it enables the company to expand its digital infrastructure and contribute to Indonesia's ambitions of becoming an AI-first nation. Data centres have been identified as a fundamental component in the national strategy for digital sovereignty.

Under the new agreement, PLN will deliver additional electrical capacity to fuel BDx's expanding network, including both core data centres and 53 edge sites across Indonesia. The increased capacity will bolster existing sites and support new developments such as the CGK3A Campus in South Jakarta, in addition to the already announced 500 MW CGK4 AI Campus located in Jatiluhur.

Power for AI infrastructure

Agus Hartono Wijaya, President Director of BDx Indonesia, emphasised the significance of the partnership for both national infrastructure development and the company's expansion plans.

Reliable, scalable power from PLN is the backbone of AI and digital innovation across the country. This partnership goes beyond power—it's about building the foundation for Asia's digital future. Indonesia is emerging as a digital powerhouse, and with PLN's support, we're scaling smarter, greener, and faster to meet the region's growing demands for AI, sustainability, and digital sovereignty.

The CGK4 campus is recognised as Indonesia's first sovereign AI data centre and the country's first renewable-powered AI data centre campus, aiming for a total projected capacity of 500 MW. According to BDx, the campus has achieved NVIDIA DGX-Ready certification, which positions it to support advanced computing and artificial intelligence workloads at scale.

The agreement aligns with Indonesia's national goals for AI adoption and greater digital independence. By leveraging PLN's dependable electricity supply, BDx aims to provide a consistent platform to global hyperscalers, enterprises, and government stakeholders, especially for AI training and inference workloads.

PLN's perspective

Moch. Andy Adchaminoerdin, General Manager of PLN UID Jakarta Raya, expressed PLN's commitment to supporting the country's technological transformation.

This partnership reflects the trust and confidence placed in PLN as a reliable energy provider for the digital sector. We are proud to support the growth of Indonesia's data center industry with dependable and sustainable energy solutions.

Both parties emphasised the importance of this agreement in upholding high standards for sustainability and energy efficiency. As data centre energy requirements continue to grow, particularly in AI and digital infrastructure, access to reliable and renewable energy is becoming increasingly crucial for operators seeking to support both local and international customers.

AI and digital sovereignty

BDx's current operations include more than five core data centres and 53 edge sites nationwide, and the company reports the potential to deploy over 700 MW of total capacity in Indonesia. Its recent investments, particularly the CGK4 campus, have positioned BDx within the broader movement for digital sovereignty and AI readiness in Southeast Asia.

The partnership with PLN is designed to assure the energy security needed for extensive data processing tasks and cloud-based services that are central to modern economies. The CGK4 facility's use of renewable power marks a distinct shift toward environmentally conscious solutions, while meeting the scale required for cloud, colocation, and edge computing.

There is an expectation that this supply agreement will have tangible effects on Indonesia's efforts to enhance its digital infrastructure, reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources, and promote the broader adoption of AI solutions in government and commerce. BDx's ongoing collaboration with PLN is anticipated to play a role in future developments related to digital innovation and sovereignty.
