BDx opens fifth data centre in Indonesia's Jakarta

Today

BDx Data Centers has announced the launch of its fifth data centre in Indonesia, aiming to significantly expand its footprint in the region's digital infrastructure.

The new facility, named the CGK 3A campus, is located in Southern Jakarta. This development marks a key part of BDx's plan to establish a dozen more data centres across Indonesia within the next few years. These sites will be strategically situated in major cities, including Jakarta, Surabaya, Batam, Medan, Makassar, Bandung, and Semarang, with a targeted capacity of 250 MW over the next two years.

In further development, BDx Data Centers has partnered with the Association of Indonesia Internet Service Providers (APJII) to strengthen Indonesia's digital ecosystem. This cooperation is part of efforts to align with Indonesia's digital transformation initiatives such as "Making Indonesia 4.0" and the 2045 Digital Vision, which aim to integrate advanced technologies like cloud computing, IoT, and AI into the country's economy.

Sujit Panda, Chief Operating Officer of BDx Data Centers, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, "In the wake of Indonesia's digital revolution, our alliance with APJII is not just timely but imperative. While BDx offers the most interconnected digital infrastructure mesh across the country with a portfolio of 59 colocation facilities and edge sites, APJII is a cornerstone of Indonesia's Internet ecosystem. This collaboration is more than a partnership; it's a synergy aimed at bridging the digital divide, underscoring our common commitment to strengthening Indonesia's digital backbone."

Muhammad Arif, Chairman of APJII, also commented on the collaboration, "The partnership with BDx Data Centers reflects our focus on optimizing internet traffic, improving routing efficiency, and advancing Indonesia's digital infrastructure's overall quality and security. By joining hands, we intend to pave the way for a sustainable and resilient digital future."

The partnership involves enhancing the Indonesia Internet Exchange (IIX) in Greater Jakarta by establishing a new IIX node at BDx's CGK 3A campus. This strategic location aims to become a digital hub for internet traffic exchange, enhancing the digital infrastructure's resilience and efficiency through a carrier-neutral interconnection ecosystem.

The CGK 3A campus is specially designed for AI inferencing, which will promote advanced AI capabilities. The establishment of IIX in this facility will enhance high-speed, direct connectivity and peering opportunities, thereby improving responsiveness and data sharing within AI ecosystems.

Indonesia's rapid internet penetration, recorded at 79.5% by the APJII survey in 2024, has been driven by the nation's tech-savvy and young population. The growth in e-commerce, as well as government-backed digital transformation initiatives, underscores the need for robust digital infrastructure to support the burgeoning digital economy in Indonesia.

APJII, representing over 1,000 internet service providers and 3,000 users, aims to improve the digital landscape in Indonesia, aligning their efforts with national digital visions and advancement goals.
