Acronis 2025 ESG report spotlights AI & emissions cuts

Tue, 10th Mar 2026

Acronis has published its 2025 environmental, social and governance (ESG) report, outlining progress on responsible AI adoption, renewable electricity matching, partner training, and community projects.

The cyber protection supplier reported broader internal use of AI tools alongside new governance measures. It also disclosed changes to its greenhouse gas reporting and a year-on-year reduction in Scope 1 to 3 emissions.

Alona Geckler, SVP of Business Operations and Chief of Staff, framed the report as part of the company's broader approach.

"This ESG report reflects our commitment to building a resilient, ethical, and sustainable organization - one that protects not only data, but also people, communities, and the environment."

Responsible AI

The report describes a more formal approach to AI governance. Acronis appointed a Board Sustainability Champion and completed its first Double Materiality Assessment, steps it said strengthened oversight and clarified which ESG topics matter most to the business and its stakeholders.

More than 80% of employees now use AI tools weekly, according to the report. Acronis introduced an AI Use Policy and delivered staff training. The policy sets guardrails for data protection, human oversight, and acceptable use cases.

Acronis also reported expanding AI across its product portfolio, adding features to endpoint security, backup and recovery, and endpoint management. It positioned the changes as efficiency and resilience gains for customers and partners.

In research and development, AI-assisted development has scaled significantly, the report said. More than 300 engineers use AI coding tools, which Acronis said have generated nearly 2 million lines of code to date and contributed to productivity gains in development and testing.

Geckler said the report is intended to provide clarity on performance and direction.

"Our 2025 ESG Report demonstrates how we embed responsible business practices into both our strategy and daily operations. By providing transparency into our performance, we create long-term value for our partners and give them confidence in our sustainable operations and business stability. We are committed to strengthening trust and contributing to a more secure digital future."

Environmental metrics

Acronis reported a 40% reduction in total Scope 1 to 3 greenhouse gas emissions compared with 2024. Scope 3 emissions accounted for 98% of its total footprint and fell 41% year on year, it said.

The report breaks out key Scope 3 sources. The largest share came from the use phase of sold products (Category 11), which accounted for 82.1% of Scope 3 emissions, according to Acronis.

To improve consistency and reliability, Acronis worked with an external sustainability advisory partner on its greenhouse gas figures. It also matched 70% of its electricity consumption with recognised renewable energy attribute certificates.

On infrastructure, the report highlights a migration of more than 100 petabytes of Frankfurt data centre workloads to a facility certified to ISO 14001 and ISO 50001. Acronis said it prioritised energy efficiency, hardware reuse, and certified recycling practices as part of the effort.

Employee-led activity also featured. Acronis held 18 Environmental Days across 11 regions, collecting 1,500 kg of waste and planting 1,780 trees, it said.

Workforce and community

Acronis reported updates to employee engagement and learning programmes. It expanded its Voice of Employees initiative and implemented 50% of submitted ideas focused on workplace culture and operational improvements. It also launched LinkedIn Learning globally, achieving about 70% adoption, and expanded mentorship programmes.

Volunteering was a significant part of the social reporting. Acronis said more than 600 employees - 33% of its workforce-contributed 2,378 volunteer hours across 129 community projects.

Through the Acronis Cyber Foundation, the company reported three school construction projects supporting 1,289 children. It also cited eight IT skills programmes reaching more than 550 learners and 40 cyber safety workshops engaging 2,100 participants. Acronis said 63 employees and 33 partners took part.

Partners and compliance

Partner training remained a central theme, reflecting Acronis' focus on managed service providers (MSPs). Acronis Academy trained more than 4,000 partner employees per quarter across 162 countries and seven languages, according to the report. Participants earned an average of three to four certifications each, and total certifications doubled year on year, Acronis said.

The report also details partner collaboration structures. The Partner Ambassadors Programme includes 40 MSP ambassadors from 20 countries, while the Partner Advisory Council has more than 200 members, Acronis said. The groups supported more than 10 industry events and webinars and took part in 38 structured feedback sessions that informed product experience changes and go-to-market priorities.

On governance tools, Acronis launched Compliance Navigator, an interactive resource for MSPs and customers. The company said it links regulatory requirements-including NIS2, DORA, and HIPAA-with compliance and security steps.
