VPBank completes major Temenos upgrade on Red Hat OpenShift cloud

Fri, 14th Nov 2025

VPBank, one of Vietnam's five largest private commercial banks, has completed an upgrade of its core banking system, moving to the most recent Temenos platform.

The project was carried out in partnership with Systems Limited and uses the Red Hat OpenShift cloud environment. This transition is designed to improve the bank's scalability, operational efficiency, and customer-facing services through a fully cloud-native architecture.

Technology migration

The bank transitioned from its earlier version of the Temenos core banking system to the latest release, now hosted on Red Hat OpenShift. The migration covered the movement of more than 18 million customer accounts and millions of loan records, with VPBank serving over 17 million customers. The entire transfer was conducted in under 24 hours, minimising disruption for customers and operations alike.

Operational benefits

VPBank's shift to a cloud-native system is aimed at enhancing the bank's agility and ability to innovate. According to the bank, this approach aids it in bringing new products to market more rapidly, improving integration with partners, and delivering better reliability. Automation of workflows, resource optimisation, and reduction in IT overheads are expected to drive operational cost efficiencies.

"At VPBank, modernization is not an end in itself but a foundation for what comes next. By embracing open, cloud-native architectures and reengineering our core banking platform on Red Hat OpenShift, we are building the agility and resilience needed to continuously innovate at scale. This transformation reflects our commitment to being a technology-first bank-one that can evolve rapidly, deliver with consistency, and serve all our customers with trust and speed in an ever-changing digital world. We deeply value the strong collaboration with Temenos, Red Hat, and Systems Limited, whose partnership has been instrumental in turning this vision into reality." said Wong Kok Seng Augustine, Chief of Information Officer, Vietnam Prosperity Joint-Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank)

Collaborative approach

Systems Limited played a central role in managing the core banking upgrade project, working alongside VPBank and Temenos. The company has highlighted the project as a significant example of its expertise in supporting large-scale banking modernisation across global markets.

"This success with VPBank demonstrates the depth of our expertise in executing major core banking upgrades on a global scale. By combining innovative methodologies with Temenos' next-generation platform and Red Hat OpenShift, we have enabled VPBank to achieve remarkable improvements in scalability, efficiency, and performance. This is a milestone that showcases our commitment to enabling banks across APAC to modernize for the digital future," said Masood.

Cloud advantages

The migration relies on Red Hat OpenShift, which is based on Kubernetes, to containerise the bank's mission-critical applications and automate operational processes. Red Hat emphasised the advantages of workload management and maintaining business continuity across different environments.

"Red Hat OpenShift, the industry's leading hybrid cloud application platform powered by Kubernetes, provides banks like VPBank with a strong foundation to containerize mission-critical applications, automate operations, and help ensure more consistent performance while maintaining business continuity across environments. With this modernization, VPBank gains the ability to orchestrate workloads at scale, streamline deployments, and maintain high availability-critical capabilities for supporting millions of customers while driving continuous innovation." said Dao Hoang Giang (Jane), Country Manager, Red Hat Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos & Myanmar.

Industry significance

Temenos underscored the importance of VPBank's project as a benchmark for similar undertakings in Southeast Asia. The new platform is designed to help banks deliver products faster and respond to digital trends more efficiently.

"We are proud to partner with VPBank, Systems Limited, and Red Hat on this groundbreaking transformation. By moving to the latest Temenos Core on Red Hat OpenShift, VPBank gains the agility to design and launch products faster, integrate seamlessly with digital ecosystems, and deliver superior experiences to millions of customers.
